Hello! My new album 'Hardcore, Static: Pirate Transmissions From The North Of England, 1990-1994' is out now. Digital and 2xLP vinyl (slight delay on that, hopefully arriving next week!)

auxiliary.bandcamp.com

Thank you to everyone who listened back with us last night at the listening party. Great vibes had by all.

This album concludes my little ravebient trilogy, which I started with 'Weaponised Serenity', expanded with 'Cold Ecstasy', and now crystallize with this. I love them all dearly, but if I did have to pick a fav, I'd say the new one realises the concept in the purest way I could possibly make it.

I started making the first tune Wacky FM on Christmas Day last year. The record was originally going to be an EP, but I was just having too much fun making the tunes, and before I knew it, an LP was born.

It won't be for everyone, and that's great. Art should be selfish, and without compromise. I certainly didn't make any with this record. It explores my earliest musical memories, and brings them into my present, morphed and distorted by time and memory. It's probably the most UK-centric record I've ever put out, but I've no doubt it'll find a connection with others in the strangest of places. Hopefully.

Massive thanks to @ascaux for all his hard work and belief getting this record out there. He's as fundamental to this album as I am. Read the liners notes and you'll understand why. Thanks to Mike Speed (another OG Wacky FM DJ) for the cover photography, and shout out to the Remerge crew, and all those who never lost their hardcore. by @3sixrecordings

Chapter 401 (Music)

Album - Hardcore Static: Pirate Transmissions From The North Of England, 1990-1994
Track - 99.9 Dream FM
Label - Auxiliary
Year - 2026

Some of my earliest musical memories were listening to my local pirate stations in the early 90's. The signal was quite weak in my area, and the sound was doused in FM static, creating this interesting amalgam of rhythm and noise. I found a strange sort of comfort in this, often falling asleep while listening to the radio, in bed, with my headphones on.

The stations were run by young people, no older than kids really, relayed from non-descript flats, scattered around Bradford, Leeds, and the surrounding towns of West Yorkshire. The setups were primitive, and the production quality (and often the mixing) were dubious at best. But there was an endless supply of passion, and listeners tuned in because they were thirsty for something the legal stations could never supply. These voices on the other side of the transmission were, for many of us, a bridge into the future. One, which sadly, never really came to be.

Hardcore, Static: Pirate Transmissions From The North of England 1990-1994 is a celebration of this unique period in UK history. The North of England feels overlooked during this time, with history's focus firmly gazed on London. But the signal was everywhere. These pirate stations were crucial for many young people, who were trying to find their place and identity in the UK.

Many of these transmissions, even the ones which were recorded onto tape, have since become lost media, effectively erased from history. Radio, at least in the analogue domain, isn't something most young people have any experience with. Pirate radio was this unique flashpoint in time, and for me at least, it was important enough for me to want pay my respects to it" (36) by @3sixrecordings

https://specialspeciesrecords.bandcamp.com/album/iss002-36-circuit-bloom

Circuit Bloom was originally released as a cassette tape, back in early 2018. It was formed from the out takes of the Fade To Grey studio sessions, but actually came out 9 months before it. Over the years, I think this record has truly come of age, free from the shackles of a larger work, and one which stands firmly on its own two feet. I still listen to it a lot, and the themes of loneliness in an increasingly digital world resonate even more loudly today than it did back then. An old hymn for a brave new world.

It's my delight to announce that Circuit Bloom now has a limited vinyl run, thanks to my friends at Special Species Records, under their new In Situ Species sub-label. This new label outlet specialises in giving older releases a new birth on vinyl, and they have done a beautiful job. I made new artwork for it, based on the existing design, with a slight twist for 2026. It's gorgeously presented, and the music shines brightly on vinyl.

Big thanks to Logan for bringing this record to a new generation of ears. Copies are very limited, and right now, only available direct from the label. @hiraethrecords in the Netherlands will soon have a small handful of copies, for people in the EU, too. by @3sixrecordings

I'm so honoured to announce my new album, 'Hardcore, Static: Pirate Transmissions From The North of England 1990-1994,' which is available to pre-order now on 2xLP transparent 12" vinyl and digital. Link in comments!

As the title suggests, this album explores the early UK breakbeat hardcore/rave sound, which I first discovered when tuning into various pirate radio stations around the city where I grew up. I was just a kid with a small portable tape player/radio hybrid and a cheap pair of headphones, but those broadcasts changed my life, ultimately inspiring me to make music myself many years later.

The result is a 50-minute, 4-track LP, that explores memories of my past, relayed into the present, blurred and broken by the inevitable distortion of time. It uses samples from the original broadcasts combined with era-specific sounds and original production, all shaped by 20 years of my own musical development. It takes the blueprint I created with 'Weaponised Serenity' and 'Cold Ecstasy' and elevates it to the final level. It’s (mostly) ambient, Jim, but probably not as you know it.

This release is even more special to me because it is being released on the Auxiliary label, run by my friend @ascaux .If you're familiar with electronic music, you’ll know how highly regarded both the artist and the label are.

As a bit of backstory: James and I grew up in the same city, both developing a love for this music via the pirate stations broadcasting in our area. Unbeknownst to me at the time, he was actually a DJ on one of the stations I used to listen to—the legendary Wacky FM, which broadcast from a flat just down the road from where we both lived (and is also the cover art for this release). He even went to school with my older sister, and the tapes he shared with her often found their way into my own tape deck—usually to her great displeasure when I chewed them up...

Decades later, we reconnected through a mutual appreciation for each other's music, completely oblivious to the history we shared. I think it's quite a beautiful, circular story, and through this connection, I’m sure you’ll agree that his label is the only place this record could call home. by @3sixrecordings

‘Threewave’ is the complete synth trilogy from 36, gathering three interconnected releases that trace a single evolving vision across five years: Wave Variations (PITP36, 2020), Symmetry Systems (PITP V052, 2022), and Reality Engine (PITP V055, 2024).

Built on self imposed limitations and a tightly curated palette of melodic, synth driven textures, the trilogy unfolds like a unified suite of short form transmissions, where each piece directly informs the next.

From the tide like, minimalist vignettes of Wave Variations to the warm machine nostalgia of Symmetry Systems (inspired by Warp’s early Artificial Intelligence era), 36 maintains an unmistakably human touch within the circuitry, balancing melancholic keys with luminous atmosphere. The arc culminates in Reality Engine, where the trilogy’s “melodic, melancholy machine sound” expands into broader thematic terrain, exploring artificial intelligence, perception, and the blurred boundary between the real and the imagined.

Together, this trilogy of sound stands as a defining chapter in the shared story of 36 and Past Inside the Present, a partnership built on trust, artistic freedom, and a mutual devotion to timeless, emotionally resonant sound.

‘Night Language’
(ЧЖ075/EVA-28)

To kick off 2026, we’re honoured to welcome the legendary Dennis Huddleston, aka 36, to Pure Life with his new album Night Language.

Night Language explores the phenomenon of hypnagogia: the space between waking life and sleep- where oceans meet.

Inspired by Berlin School era electronic music, by artists such as Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, etc... Night Language is a dynamic, melodic, energetic twist on the usual 36 sound, where kaleidoscopic synths enter the prism, and flood your ears with impossible colour.

Available on limited 140g vinyl, rave case cassette and digital.
