What’s Going On is a Grooveschool podcast in partnership with 3Space exploring music, identity, creativity and community through conversation.

In episode one, one of 3Space’s Community Managers, Tahlee Johnson, sits down with Elle Moss, founder of @bornormade, a regular networking meet-up that brings people together to build a strong sense of belonging and helps build solid connections between freelancers, businesses, charities, and solopreneurs, all within a local community.

Part one focuses on Elle’s early relationship with music, identity, and the experiences that shaped her creative path. They explore formative influences, coming-of-age moments, and the deeper questions behind her work.

Expect an afternoon celebrating community, creativity, and resilience. The event will include space to meet the Lambeth Larder team, and enjoy delicious Guyanese food from @gmascommunitykitchen and a prize draw with gifts from a list of much-loved local traders, including International House's partners in residence @birdsnestbrixton @rooftopsaunas

At International House we're a proud home to EIGHT organisations supporting refugees @compasscollect @wearebreadwinners @cityofsanctuaryuk @hopefortheyoung @refugeesathome @babylonproject @oshyouth @the_bikeproject 🧡

To celebrate Refugee Week with this year's theme of COURAGE, we wanted to highlight some of the incredible events that are taking place thanks to our tenant orgs.

1. 25 June - 28 June | HEY SALAM HOLA BWAKEYE - An Audio-Visual Exhibition presented by Breadwinners. Expect inspirational stories and portraits of young people from the Breadwinners community.

2. 25 June | Babylon Project present a special exhibition, creative workshops, food, drinks & music!

3. 18 - 20 June | Two short films, created by Compass Collective members in the Highlands as part of their recent Make a Film in a Month project, are receiving their first London screenings this week.

4. 16 June | Allies in Exile + Q&A at the BFI. A powerful new documentary from Syrian filmmaker and Compass Associate Artist Hasan Kattan, charting his journey from reporting on the war in Aleppo to living in a UK asylum hotel.

5. 17 June - 20 Sep | TONIC FLOW: A Communal Chorus in Colour and Sound - a collaborative sound and visual installation by artist Lakwena Maciver and musician Abimaro Gunnell. 11 young sanctuary-seeking artists from Compass Collective worked with Lakwena Maciver this spring to imagine a future overflowing with hope, through visual art workshops.

6. 28 June | Stage Screen & Social Change - In Conversation with Benedict Cumberbatch, David Harewood, Indira Varma, Juliet Stevenson and Toby Jones in aid of Compass Collective.

3Space and Hope For The Young go wayyyy back ➡️

One of our many treasured tenant orgs creating promising futures for refugees, HFTY started their 3Space journey in our meanwhile use project at Keeton’s and Collett in Bermondsey, a former college that closed for redevelopment in 2020. They moved with us to International House and have since gone from strength to strength, graduating from our community initiatives floor and onto paid for space within the building.

It was great to chat to their CEO Matt Blacker for our impact video about the amazing work the charity does to remove obstacles to young refugees and asylum seekers’ education and well-being through mentoring, advocacy and financial support.

You wouldn’t be able to capture International House without the most fabulous circular economy project in town! ✨

Here’s what happened when we met up with Kate and Emma, ex TV producers and co-founders of PropUp Project, a not for profit organisation set up to help the TV and film industry deal with their prop and set waste in the most sustainable and socially responsible way.

Since we shot our impact video, PropUp project now have an amazing dedicated team and a new central hub at our Warren Street project, which has allowed them to work with several major production companies and platforms. They have also won numerous awards for their sustainable impact work - their Rehome, Resell, Recycle model has allowed them to donate an impressive 50985 items to date!

We’re very proud to have incubated them in our Brixton building for the last few years and can’t wait to see what they get up to next.

“International House is a platform for Brixton to be seen in many different contexts.” 🔦

Another highlight from our impact video was when we spoke to Binki Taylor, founding partner of the @brixtonproject, a participatory placemaking organisation that commissions creative and cultural programming to increase access, strengthen communities, and support inclusive place-based development.

Since the release of the video in 2024, The Brixton Project have graduated from our community initiatives floor to having their own dedicated hub at International house, which has been the home to many important community discussions, projects and events. They have brought creatives and cultural institutions together with residents, businesses, academics, funders, and policy makers to address intersecting social, economic, and environmental challenges — from the cost of living to the impact of redevelopment and climate change on local people.

It’s the 2 year anniversary of when we released our International House Impact Video into the wild 🎉

It was no mean feat to try and capture the good that exists in our Brixton home. We’re so proud of what we have created and of our thriving community, both then and now.
