SIDELINED has been selected for the upcoming 5th iteration of @ciff.uk #CIFF 🥳

A festival as exciting and vibrant as the place it was born, we are extremely lucky and privileged to have our film included in such a diverse programming of shorts, features and events.

This will be our london-premiere (aka homecoming) for SIDELINED (!!!) and what better place to screen than the iconic @claphampicturehouse as part of “Trick Mirror” at 1:30PM on Saturday 19th of September. We’ll see you there! 🤩

SIDELINED has been selected for the upcoming edition of @mansfieldtownfilmfestival - a @bifa_film qualifying festival! ⚡️

@mansfieldtownfilmfestival is a celebration of working-class talents, diverse filmmakers and representative stories from across the globe. We are thrilled to be joining their incredible line-up this September and can’t wait to be apart of an exciting and inspiring programme of short films and events.

SIDELINED will be screening in the Director’s Lounge as part of ‘How Far We Drift’ on Friday 25th at 4:45PM. We’ll see you there! 🤩

We’re beyond proud to announce that SIDELINED has made the Official Programme for the @bifa_film & (newly) @bafta qualifying @womenxfest 2026 💐🥳💕

I was on the train back from Darlington to London after spending the weekend at the Writers’ Retreat at @womenxfest 2025. The night before, I’d won Best Screenplay for my short film Doctors & Nurses. I’d spent the weekend watching a programme of fantastic, inspiring films and talking to wildly talented, passionate filmmakers. My new screenplay was writing itself in my head already. On that 2-hour train journey back home, I wrote the first draft of what would eventually become SIDELINED. I’ve never had something pour out of me and onto paper that quickly before.

Externalising the themes of this film into a cohesive narrative was rewarding enough. Having the project backed and spearheaded by the wonderful Kyle Campbell-Pope @4.folds was another unexpected victory. Getting the short made into a living, breathing thing with the most gifted and joyous cast and crew was a dream. Having people say the story resonated with them was the final cherry on top. And yet the feeling keeps growing!

It’s weird to think if and when SIDELINED would’ve been born if I hadn’t gone to Darlington that weekend. I’m so happy that I did, and so grateful of the space that @carisrianne, @pearl.ah_ and the entire Women X Team have created to nurture, uplift and champion female talent in every way. It’s an honour to be associated with this festival. Thank you.

SIDELINED. I’m so very proud of the work created by @leila.lockley and excited to share some first looks, in-depth visuals, breakdowns and all of the above in the weeks to come! For now, I hope this wee teaser from myself and the amazing graphics and design maestro @ed.mac__ will tide you over ⚡️

“…I wanted to inject some fun & vibrancy into the graphics. Bringing it to life with call backs to the references that I was shown and a few I included myself” ✍🏼

Working with multi-disciplinary artist, @ed.mac__ on the visual identity, design elements and crafting physical developments of the film that can be shared with friends, family and people interested in cinema; has been an extremely gratifying process 🎥

The team gave Ed a short brief that emphasised the importance of family, heritage and love; but also flagged the balance of genre. The film on paper feels light, fun, energetic, heartfelt. Yet it has dramatic weight. We’d love for the title card and the poster to translate these elements immediately to viewers and fellow cinephiles 🤩

We then received a selection of incredibly dynamic, genre-inspired, warm, colourful and intentional title cards that are a credit to Ed’s passion and superb skills as an artist; but also to produce such a wide range of options that span British and American comedy. A sprinkle of French New Wave, and a wallop of cinematic ambition, we couldn’t have asked for better results ✨

Ed’s work and investigations developed into an additional call for posters and stickers. We developed these initially as a wrap gift for cast and crew involved, sharing our appreciation for the hard graft everyone pulled across post-production to our big one day of shooting 🫶🏾

SIDELINED is a family dramedy that follows mixed-race sisters, Amber and Rosa; both grappling with their appearance, personal choices, stereotypes, and what it means to belong to different cultures.

The project boasts a rich blend of heart, character, levity, vulnerability and emotion that made this an exciting yet challenging creation, especially to get it all right. One of the keys to our success has been through the incredibly committed efforts of our talented ensemble of actors.

@buukasa plays AARON so comfortably, confidently and charismatically that he made the role entirely his own. Such poise, charm, passion and responsibility throughout his performance and his approach to the role.

@elliotgoodhill plays JOSHUA, the essential piece to any family puzzle and a warm bright light across our production and especially comedic beats of the film.
An amazing level of kindness, openness, compassion and dramatic awareness for his cast-mates throughout.

@missellabardot plays ROSA exceptionally, capturing the looks, nuances and emotive shifts required for such a layered and important character. An expressive, reactive and energetic performance that I can’t wait for people to see.

Our maestro @leila.lockley plays AMBER, consistently capturing through her actions, dialogue and connections with her cast-mates the complications of being caught between two differing backgrounds. Her humour, reflectiveness, joy and proactive energy was invaluable to the project and to the role.
