✨ NEW TEXTURE WORKSHOP ✨One of the questions I get asked the most is, “How do you create all of that texture?” Well mates, I’m opening up my process and inviting you to a two-part mixed media workshop where we’ll create artwork that extends beyond the surface of the canvas.We’ll explore materials like cardboard, sand, rocks, joint compound, molding paste, and more as we build dimension, depth, and texture. Taking a min to introduce myself to new people with an updated “intro post”.My name is Emily (Strange), Im a full time artist based between Brooklyn, NY and Columbus, Ohio, with my studio in Columbus @400westrich Studio 304. My story is a long one so I’ll cut it short. I grew up in Columbus. Always into art, always creating something, I had a very diverse upbringing, got bullied for my parents being gay, moved alot, switched schools alot, my childhood is a long one lol. Let’s move on. I started drinking at 10, using drugs at 14. From 14 to 30 my life was a huge blur of partying and darkness. I’ve been thru abuse, DV, rape, watched people die, saved people from dying, overdosed, been in a serious car accident, lived in some not so nice places, and lost two extremely important people to murder and suicide due to addiction. Lemme just say I relate with a lot of people who have been thru trauma 😅. I got help from a homeless shelter to get my GED, take my SAT, and apply to colleges. Really didn’t think I would get in but I was accepted to Parsons The New School on a scholarship and graduated with my BFA. Worked in NYC as a photographer for years. I’ve shown my art all over and continue to push myself, the sky’s the limit right 😝! I’m a mother, raised a daughter who is the most beautiful person and my number one. I’m 11 years sober from opiates. After getting clean I got extreme anxiety, which I’ve had to learn how to fight thru. I became extremely introverted and still trying to be the extrovert I used to be again, oh and PTSD and ADHD are in the mix there too 😅. Anyways that’s the gist of my background. Lots of stories, lots of shit to say. My mission as an artist is to be a voice for the unheard, for the hidden struggles that people face and maybe feel alone in, and to help as many as I can. I believe in the power of art, it helped me in so many ways, and I know it can change the life’s of others! I’m also not judgmental at all, I don’t believe in judging a book by its cover so reach out if you need to ever talk just because! So yea Hi, I’m Emily 🤪.
