Polished concrete is more than just making a floor shine. It takes proper surface preparation, progressive diamond grinding, densification, and attention to detail at every stage to achieve a consistent, durable finish.

Another successful polished concrete system completed by the 42 Construction team!

PROJECT PROCESS | BALLARD LOCKS 🔨

A finished floor is only the final step.

Here’s a look behind the scenes at our recent project at the Ballard Locks in Seattle.

These mechanical spaces are exposed to the elements, so the project required more than simply installing a durable coating.

1️⃣ Existing concrete
Addressing the substrate and drainage needs.

2️⃣ Proper preparation
Preparing the concrete so we’re building on a sound surface — not covering up problems.

3️⃣ Drainage
Correcting the surface profile and establishing proper slope toward the drains.

4️⃣ Urethane cement
Installing a heavy-duty system designed for a demanding environment.

5️⃣ Weather
Rain delayed the project for several months. We waited until conditions were right rather than compromise the installation.

6️⃣ Finished system
A durable surface designed to help manage water while protecting the concrete underneath.

Industrial flooring isn’t simply:

Prep → coat → done.

It’s understanding the substrate, moisture, drainage, environment and flooring system — and making all of those pieces work together.

Swipe through to see some of the process. 👀

Thank you to @htipolymer for bringing 42 Construction as a partner with this project.

PROJECT LESSON | BALLARD LOCKS 🌧️

Sometimes the most important part of a flooring project is knowing when not to install it.

At the Ballard Locks, our work took place in mechanical spaces exposed to the weather and constant moisture — making environmental conditions a critical part of the installation.

Rain interrupted our original schedule, and instead of forcing the project forward, we waited.

For MONTHS.

Once we had a full week of suitable weather, we returned and completed the installation under the right conditions.

Because with resinous flooring, moisture and weather can affect surface preparation, adhesion, curing and long-term performance.

Was waiting frustrating? Absolutely.

Was it worth it? Without question.

The lesson:

Good flooring isn’t just about the finish you see. It’s about understanding the environment, the concrete underneath it, and knowing when the conditions are right to build a system that lasts.

***Stay tuned for photos of the final finish**

@sherwinwilliams Waterproofing & Quartz Flooring System

Another seamless flooring system completed by 42 Construction in partnership with @htipolymer for a local technology company.

Our scope included:

• Concrete grinding to a CSP 3–4
• Bushing all drains for proper drainage
• Sherwin-Williams elastomeric waterproofing system
• 6” integral cove base
• Double-broadcast quartz flooring system
• Polyaspartic topcoat for a durable, seamless finish

The result: a fully waterproof, seamless, chemical-resistant flooring system built to perform in demanding commercial environments.

Proud to deliver another high-performance flooring installation with HTI Polymer. 💪🏼

Concrete that looks good and performs even better. 👌

This 2,000 sq. ft. concrete restoration and polishing project is another example of what proper surface preparation and craftsmanship can achieve.

Our team completed:
✔ Adhesive and glue removal
✔ Concrete repairs and patching
✔ Multi-step mechanical polishing
✔ Densifier application for increased durability
✔ Protective sealer for long-lasting performance

From start to finish, this transformation was completed in just 3 days, delivering a clean, low-maintenance floor built to handle daily use.

Big thanks to Rosman Renovations, LLC and South West Plumbing for trusting 42 Construction with this project. We appreciate the opportunity and look forward to the next one!

Out with the old, in with the built-to-last. 👊

From demolition and trench restoration to a seamless Acrylicon resin quartz flooring system with integral cove base, this project at Nucor Steel got the full transformation treatment.

The real flex? This floor was fully cured and back in service just **90 minutes after installation.**

Less downtime. More production. A floor designed to keep up with operations that never stop.

Another one in the books for the 42 Construction crew. 🔥

Not every flooring project goes exactly as planned—and that’s where experience matters.

While preparing this floor at Nucor, our team uncovered hollow and failing topping material that needed immediate attention before moving forward. We quickly removed all compromised material, re-prepared the substrate, installed reinforcing steel, applied primer, and placed Rapid Set cement to keep the project on track.

Quality resin flooring starts long before the coating is installed. Taking the time to properly address substrate issues is what creates a durable system built to perform for years to come.

Proud of our crew for adapting to changing conditions, maintaining schedule, and continuing to deliver quality workmanship as we prepare for another AcryliCon resin flooring installation.

From demolition to reconstruction. 💪

Our team recently restored a failed concrete containment curb at a steel manufacturing facility, rebuilding it with Rapid Set Cement All and preparing the area for a new Acrylicon resin flooring system.

The project included bush-hammering and keyed terminations for mechanical bonding, reinforcing steel installation, and a moisture vapor barrier primer with sand broadcast to ensure long-term adhesion and performance.

These containment systems play a critical role in preventing chemical migration and protecting facilities from water intrusion. The details below the surface are what make industrial flooring systems last.

Proud of the craftsmanship and attention to detail our team brings to every project.

More progress photos for this project to come. Stay tuned!
