Shot this back in the day, thanks to @contakt321 & @littlesqb trusting I could get it done... Fun Fact: it was one of my first shoots & the first shoot I ever did with strangers & it was with Littles & Mobb Deep. Legends. I was stupid nervous, not because we were running around Queensbridge strapped up, but because I was afraid I’d fu€k this opportunity up. So I brought 3 cameras with me. Because I wanted a variety of looks? Nah, because I figured if I couldn’t get one working I’d have another option. Take advantage of every opportunity you get, you will never know where it could lead. taken in New York, New York by @47_ak

Let’s talk about this one…

“Hustler” is an unreleased Cam’ron record from 1999 that appeared on a promo called the “Rough, Rough, Rough Album” - basically an early work-in-progress version of what would eventually become “S.D.E.” in 2000.

The record made its rounds on mixtapes back then and was even rumored to be the first single from “S.D.E.”, but for whatever reason, it was never officially released.

I always loved this song, especially the hook sung by Lil’ Cease, and never understood why it didn’t make the album. Listening back now, though, I can kind of see it. “Hustler” feels more like “Confessions of Fire” Cam than “S.D.E.” Cam - and definitely different from the monster he was about to become during the Roc-A-Fella era.

Maybe by the time “S.D.E.” was ready, the record already felt dated. Maybe they couldn’t clear the sample. Maybe there’s another story behind it entirely. I honestly don’t know.

But if you’re lucky enough to have a copy of the “Rough, Rough, Rough Album” promo or one of the bootleg vinyl pressings, you know this record.

For everybody who never got to hear it, I wanted to give “Hustler” some new life and some long-overdue shine.

So I created this AI video for a Cam’ron record that’s been sitting in the vault for more than 25 years.

Let’s talk a little about the album cover design process.

AZ & I have been collaborating on artwork and design for nearly 20 years - album covers, countless singles, flyers, posters, and even a book cover. It all started with the mixtape “The Memphis Sessions”, where I produced all the music and handled the artwork when we first met. Later, while I was working at Koch Records as Art Director, we linked up again for “Undeniable”… and the rest is history.

Sometimes AZ comes with an idea, sometimes I do. But with Doe Or Die 3, we honestly weren’t sure where to start. For Doe Or Die 2, we leaned into the wealth side of things - global currency, gold, diamonds, crypto, the stock market, etc. This time, we didn’t want to repeat that vibe, so my mind went toward the “die” side. I created a cover centered around a mausoleum in Brooklyn. It looked cool, but it didn’t match the vibe of the music, and death wasn’t something we wanted to play with.

AZ suggested we focus more on the “life” side instead - growth, journey, evolution, timeline. That led me to suggest he reach out to Danny Hastings, who shot the original Doe Or Die cover, to see if he had any unused photos from the shoot. Danny went digging in the crates and sent over some incredible images including photos from the shoot I’ve never seen before, as well as the OG cover image!

Then during one of our brainstorming sessions, AZ had the idea to combine the original Doe Or Die cover photo from Danny, the Doe Or Die 2 cover image, and a brand new photo into one collage. Once we tried it, we knew we were onto something - but it still needed one more element. That’s when he suggested using a classic painting frame. I cheffed it up from there, and then designed the back cover to feel like the actual backside of the framed artwork. That also gave me a way to incorporate another one of Danny’s photos naturally alongside the tracklisting.

Another one for the history books. Swipe through for a few of my favorites. by @47_ak

New video for “Most In Outs” by The High & Mighty ft Cage.
Remix produced by me & Shroom.
Video visuals by me.

After doing the remix I wanted to create something that went with it that attempted to took you back to the vibe of late 90’s / Early 2K’s of Brooklyn & Queens. The old New York. Dusty & Gully. The Smut Peddlers / Movies For The Blind era.

Thanks to @emeltz & @djmightymi and @shroom020.

Okay, we’re reloaded.

Thursday team bonding at @wearekinemeric looks less like trust falls and more like tactical mistakes, bad callouts, and the occasional heroic save.

In 1997, I walked into Skippy White’s in Providence and heard DJ Buck spinning this record with brooding horns and a scratch hook flipping a line from Cypress Hill’s B-Real. I bought doubles on the spot. The record was High & Mighty – The Meaning, and I’ve been a fan ever since.

Fast forward to 2000—I landed a gig at Rawkus Records and met @emeltz and @djmightymi while designing promo for the Smut Peddlers album. We hit it off, and after Rawkus, I started doing a ton of artwork for Eastern Conference Records. Cage, Tame One, Leak Bros, Nighthawks, Weathermen, EC Allstars—it was pretty surreal.

Now, 20+ years later, I got the call again.

They were working on a new album and had a bunch of old photos from back in the day they wanted to use. I pitched the idea of flipping them into vintage-style hiphop 12” single covers, inspired by the bold typography and layout of late 80s/early 90s hip hop records. We ran with it. I designed the album and five singles.
