Flipping some R&B Christmas music in October? Why not.

I had this record in a stack and I said, I bet there will at least be some cool arrangements or harmonies on this that could work.

And what do you know. Really love how the hook on this record sounded.

Used a stem separator to strip out the drums in the track, some heavy side chain on the vocals and some boom bap drums.

Haven't pulled in some acapellas in a bit either. Shouts out to Mos Def. by @4d2d

Honestly, spent a few hours making a trash beat for today and just gave up. It’s just one of those days so we are going to cut our losses and throw up an old one.

Crazy I’ve been doing this series for almost 3 years now.

I’ve debated throwing in the towel on this beat thing for a while now. I’ve written and deleted a few long posts about it. Life ebbs and flows and I may get that spark back one day… by @4d2d

You think Osho ever thought he would sound this dope as a beat intro??

Back again with some prog rock samples. Honestly I could sample half this record. I pulled a few more we might try next week.

Already had the drum baked in, so I pitched it down to a better speed, went through and cut a few of my favorite bars that were darker than the rest. Layered the drums and added a few little FX things for the verse.

Now all I hear are Westside Gunn adlibs.

I do love to sample some psychedelic rock.

This track had a lot of cool sections, I had originally planned to loop up a different part. But once the chops where done and I played around something else caught my ear.

I love finding those small little minor key, darker melodies in more up beat songs and running with that.

It’s been almost a year since I got laid off after 15 years at the same company.

Last month was my first five-figure month working for myself.

When I started this, the goal wasn’t to constantly chase random freelance work. I wanted to build a dependable “base camp” of income first, then grow from there.

After trying a little bit of everything over the past year, I’m finally getting clearer on what I’m good at, what’s sustainable, and most importantly, what clients are actually willing to pay me for.

Now the challenge has changed.

It’s less about “how do I find enough work?” and more about “how much can I realistically take on without filling every hour of my week?”

Next up: building a better client pipeline, networking with purpose, and finding projects I can eventually delegate.

Goal #1: predictable income ✅

Goal #2: consistent five-figure months. by @4d2d

Hey I’m back!

Wasn’t sure if I’d have time this week. And I had a few minutes yesterday to go thru some records.

I found this random record on the shelf called Twisted Science. Very strange metallic electronic noises. And then I found this track with a drum break in it.

Pitched it down a bit and I gave me those grimey hip hop vibes that just inspired me to keep going.

Added some bass and piano and shot my first video in 3 weeks.

July Vinly Challenge

Day 30: A record you would save first

I don’t have any super rare, expensive or signed Vinly. A large majority is dollar bin records or stuff I could find again if I needed to

And ya I could just buy this one online as well. But it wouldn’t be the copy I bought in Paris after searching record stores in the US for years for it.

I have a self imposed rule that I largely follow. When looking for a record because of a famous hip hop sample I need to find it in person. That’s half the fun of digging!
