That was Power of Proximity 2026.

From an inspiring keynote with @cyntgm to thought-provoking panels, engaging breakout sessions, meaningful conversations, and moments of connection throughout the day. This year’s summit brought our community together around one thing: the power of being in proximity to the work and to one another.

And we’re keeping the conversation going.

🎒✨ Ready by 5 is officially underway!

Our Back-to-School Festival was just the beginning. From playing and exploring to talking, reading, moving, and connecting—those simple moments are helping our little ones build the skills they need to be Ready by 5. 💚

Kindergarten readiness doesn’t require expensive activities or complicated lessons. It starts with what families are already doing every day:

🗣️ Talk with your child.
📚 Read together.
🎶 Sing together.
🏃🏾‍♀️ Move & play.
💬 Ask questions and listen.
❤️ Build routines, connection, and confidence.

Every conversation. Every story. Every song. Every moment of play is helping build your child’s brain and prepare them for what comes next.

The little things add up. And together, we can help our children be Ready by 5.

What a joy to celebrate Taylor Toynes, Xavier Henderson and the entire For Oak Cliff team. I’m so proud of what has been built, honored to serve on the board, grateful for all I have learned, and inspired by their continued vision for lifting up the Oak Cliff community.

It was also wonderful to hear from my friend Cynt Marshall. I’ve been fortunate to hear Cynt share her story several times, but something about her words this time hit more deeply.

Congratulations to Taylor, Xavier and everyone at For Oak Cliff. I’m excited to see the good work continue to lift up the super block!!! by @4oakcliff

That’s a wrap on Power of Proximity. 💛

We came together. We told the truth about the challenges. We celebrated what’s working. We made new connections. And most importantly, we kept the focus where it belongs: on the people closest to the work.

Thank you to every educator, partner, funder, volunteer and community leader who showed up ready to listen, learn and build alongside us.

The Summit may be over, but the work isn’t.

Oak Cliff, we’ve got work to do. And we’re doing it together.

Cynt Marshall’s love letter to educators was a reminder that showing up matters. The extra time. The encouragement. The experiences you create. The decision to keep believing in a young person when they may be struggling to believe in themselves.

For Cynt, teachers didn’t just teach. They saw her, protected her, expanded her world and helped her imagine a future beyond what was happening around her.

To every educator doing that for a child today: we see you, too.

The numbers matter. Trust does too.

Cynt Marshall challenged funders to look beyond outcomes alone and ask a different kind of question:

Do you really know the people? Do they know you?

The strongest investments aren’t made from a distance. They’re rooted in relationships with the people and organizations close enough to understand what a community actually needs.

Invest in proximity. Invest in trust.

For Eric Hurt Jr., this work is personal.

His own experience with incarceration as a young person shapes how he shows up today: making sure another child has the support, guidance and second chances he needed at 16.

Every child matters. Every child deserves someone willing to show up.
