Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to visit Washington, D.C. and stop by 50/50 to see my longtime friend Ryan Hall.

Every time we share the mat, he offers an eye-opening perspective that makes me rethink something and improves my Jiu-Jitsu. Thanks for always being so generous with your knowledge, Ryan!

D.C. is also an amazing city and definitely worth a visit. Already have a few reasons to go back!

Do you make time for Jiu-Jitsu when you travel? by @5050academy

Yesterday, four of our kids tested for their BJJ gray belts—and all four passed!

At 50/50, students earn stripes between solid belt tests. Each stripe test has to be perfect: every skill correct. Then the belt test brings it all together. It’s cumulative, so students have to know everything from all eight stripe tests, plus the new skills for their belt. And these kids rocked it! 🙌🏻🔥

A special shoutout to Nolan, who had a perfect test and didn’t make a single mistake. Great work, Nolan—and congratulations to all four kids!

Some achievements are too special to let a little delay get in the way of celebrating—Nienh was our September Student of the Month! 🎉

From starting in our Minis class to progressing into Juniors, Nienh has shown incredible dedication, focus, and hard work every step of the way. She’s now a grey belt in BJJ and a yellow belt in judo, and looks forward to competing in both.

Please join us in congratulating Nienh on this well-deserved achievement! 🥋👏#5050academy #fallschurch #judo #wrestling #bjjkids by @5050academy

Working through Koshi-guruma (hip wheel / headlock throw) details in class today and fine-tuning the precise mechanical details and execution instead of forcing the movement. When the mechanics are locked in, everything else just flows. On their path to it…one day at a time.

A very special night at 50/50. Congratulations to Kelani Ramos on earning her judo black belt.

Kelani has been competing since she was little, and at just 15 years old, she represented Team USA at the 2024 Junior World Championships. This belt represents years of training, competition, perseverance, and growth—and it is very well earned.

We are incredibly proud of you, Kelani. 🥋🖤

Kids don’t just learn jiu-jitsu—they learn how to stay calm when things get hard. They learn to solve problems, keep trying when something doesn’t work the first time, and treat their training partners with respect. The techniques matter, but the habits they build on the mats are what stay with them long after class.
