Join us for an intimate conversation with the co-curators of IMIYENZI as we explore how healing and resilience take root—both at home and far from it. Together, we’ll reflect on what it means to carry fragments of place, memory, and ritual across borders, and how art becomes a language for belonging in unfamiliar soil. Whether near or in diaspora, how do we stay rooted while constantly moving? This exhibition has been funded by The City of Houston through @houstonartsalliance . . . . #MileleMuseum #african #culture #tradition #digitalarchives #blackartist #blackcreators #blackhistory #africantribes #milele #acrylic #watercolour #digitalart #digital #milelemuseum #art #artist #artistoninstagram #museum #imiyenzi by @5301.18a

🌿 “The tree that bleeds milk.” A central thread in the IMIYENZI exhibition is the Euphorbia tirucalli, a resilient medicinal plant native to East Africa. Known for its healing properties and milky sap, this tree becomes a living metaphor: holding memory, traditional knowledge, and the quiet power of regeneration. 🎥 Featured here is a video work by Canda, filmed during his residency with @studio_verde_air at the @nashulai Masaai Conservancy in Kenya, where he witnessed the tree’s sap flow. A tender, visual gesture of loss, resilience, and rebirth. 🌀 The IMIYENZI open call is still open until 24 July. We’re calling on East African creatives across the globe working in digital formats to share works rooted in healing, memory, and cultural strength. 🔗 Link in bio to apply video credits: @manyisho_production #IMIYENZI #EastAfricanArtists #DigitalArtOpenCall #HealingThroughArt #AfricanDiasporaArt #ContemporaryAfricanArt #MileleMuseum #ArtOpportunity #OpenCall2025 #DigitalArt #CallForArtists #AfroFuturism #AfricaToTheWorld #EmergingArtists #VisualStorytelling by @5301.18a

The Party for Socialism & Liberation and Artists Against Apartheid invite you to join us in reclaiming the radical roots of queer resistance. From the trans femmes who faced down cops at Compton’s Cafeteria, to the activists who shut down business as usual during the AIDS crisis, to the working class heroes of Stonewall—queer liberation has always been inseparable from class struggle, and inseparable from art. In the face of escalating repression—from anti-trans legislation to gentrification that erases queer communities—we ask: how can art help us fight back? How does queerness inform how we struggle? What visions can we create together that go beyond visibility and demand transformation? Join us at 7pm on Saturday, July 12 at the Arts & Culture Lab for the exhibition, performances, and important conversations about how we must out-organize our oppressors. Parking instructions: (For visual guide, go to "Directions" story highlight on @5301.18a profile) - On Polk St, turn into "Central City Industrial Park" and follow the road inside - Look for a 1-story orange brick building on your right. - Turn right to go behind the building for parking. Do not park anywhere else! ** Artists, keep a look out for details coming very soon about how you can submit your art to be featured in the show! To support our efforts toward securing our own space--The Houston Liberation Center--please consider making a suggested donation of $10 at the door. No one will be turned away, but every dollar helps! 🗓️ Saturday, July 12 🕑 7pm 📍 Arts and Culture Lab (5301 Polk St, Bldg. 18A) by @5301.18a
