On paper, this was a race weekend to forget for the GT3. But take that paper, crumple it up into a ball, and swoosh it into a Trash CAN. These are the takeaways from today’s @gtworldchallengeamerica race at @barbermotorpark :

- We won the pitstop race!!! Our amazing crew had the fastest pitstops of the day and cumulatively spent the least amount of time on pit road of the entire field.

- Both the car and our drivers were dialed in perfectly. We had the same pace of the leaders throughout the race, as shown by:

- Hampus showed mega consistency which found us being the fastest BMW on 20-lap average in his stint.

Sure, it wasn’t an outcome representative of our efforts, but considering it was an unfamiliar track to @ericssonhampus & @4derekdeboer , we are still very proud of the progress shown. All the pieces are falling into place - we’ll get there. And we’re looking to do it at the final race of the season, the @indy8hour , at a track that is familiar to our drivers and team alike. Speaking of which… there may be an announcement about that coming soon……. Stay tuned!!!

Thinking you haven’t seen much of the GT3 car on the socials yet this weekend??? That’s because we were waiting until today to reveal our special one-off livery for Barber!!! Yeah… we’ll go with that…

Anyways. Qualifying is done and dusted, and all that’s left to do today is race. @4derekdeboer & @ericssonhampus qualified P9 overall P6 in class.

Be sure to join us for the grid walk at 11:15 local time if you’re at the track, and tune into the @gtworldchallengeamerica @youtube channel at 12:30 CST.

They say a butterfly flapping its wings on the other side of the world can change the course of history. Is there something like that about the trash can a raccoon rummages through at the racetrack? Because that would be the best metaphor for today.

In short, racing be like that sometimes. It was yet another one of those races where stuff outside of our control put a damper on what could have been a really good day. So let’s focus on what can change the outcome of our race for the positive: our amazing crew.

After the 92 suffered a puncture on the first lap, the crew got the tire changed and the car back out on track under green flag conditions without going a lap down. Excellent strategy playing into the numerous FCY’s moved the 92 up to the front of the pack on a one-stop strategy. Then a lightning fast full service stop of fuel, 4 tires, and driver change, kept us in contention for a possible top-ten if a few more cards fell in our favor…. But they unfortunately did not.

One race to go in the 2026 IMSA MPC season, and it’s at our “other” home track of Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. We hope to maybe find some of the luck we’ve been missing this season there, and we hope to see you there!!!

I think the thing that amuses me about airshows over sportscar races is the carnival nature of it. Sportscar races generally happen at a purpose-built facility where there is a designated place for concessions, hospitality, and viewing areas. Most airshows happen in a field or on tarmac directly adjacent to a runway that for the other 360-some-odd days of the year is off limits to most. Food trucks go… *vaguely gestures* …over there, because “that seems like a good place for them”. There’s realistically no “best” place to sit because the surroundings are flat and barren. While there’s generally something entertaining going on most of the time, it’s not always as constant or captivating as the consistency of an endurance race. There will be 10-15min pockets of pure adrenaline followed by a prolonged interval between demonstrations. Waiting in line for a half-hour for a $20 ice cream cone isn’t just something to do to pass the time, it almost feels like a necessity.

Am I saying I prefer the airshow experience over endurance sportscar racing? Absolutely not. I personally love getting lost in the grove, the consistency, the monotony, of an endurance race - the longer the race is, the more creative I usually feel. But there is something special about airshows… I think it’s the absurdity of them. When you really start to unpack everything that’s going on, it’s an illogical exercise in logistics. The majority of the spectators -the vast percentage that aren’t aviation nerds- tend to be a community of local strangers gathering in an impractical place because… why not?

Sportscars races are a traveling circus in nearly the most literal sense. Airshows are a festival rather than a tour. Sure there are certain acts that travel from show to show, but it’s not necessarily as organized or scripted.

If there’s one thing I’ve been both struggling with and working on most this past racing season, it’s seeing racing for the bigger picture of it. Heading into this last stretch of four consecutive race weeks in a row, two of which being large endurance grand finales, I’m glad I had the chance to take in the obscurity of a small-town airshow beforehand. taken in Tully's Great Food & Good Times by @5evenspeed

Looking forward to the @wobairshow this weekend! These photos are from the 2023 revival of Wings Over Batavia and I remember walking away just completely awestruck with my expectation blown out of the water by the show they put on. It may not be the biggest or most star-studded airshow of the year… but that doesn’t matter because there is nothing cooler than an airshow at sundown and the small town vibes add a layer you just don’t get elsewhere. taken in Wings Over Batavia by @5evenspeed

I watched everything fall apart at this racetrack, twice in a matter of weeks. A year later, it was a place of rejuvenation for me that led to where I am today. And it was at this racetrack that the words which saved my career in motorsports were spoken to me: “if you can’t handle disappointment, you shouldn’t be in motorsports”.

It was the combination of those words and the people I’ve found myself around at any given race lately that kept my head above water this past weekend.

… because this past weekend absolutely sucked. I spent most of it pondering “do I hate this racetrack or does this racetrack hate me?”. I can’t tell you the number of times I wanted to make a profanity-laden Story ranting about my feelings, or just say “fuck this” and leave the session and/or track early. You know why I didn’t? Because seconds after those emotions flooded my brain, different synapses fired in counteraction saying “no - you’re part of something bigger. You represent so much more than yourself. This isn’t about you. If you can’t handle this, you shouldn’t be in motorsports… but this is where you belong, so handle it because you know you can and you know it’s worth it”.

It’s easy to miss the forest when within the trees… and I can’t even begin to express how grateful I am for the closely knit extended family of relative strangers that I share nearly half my weekends a year with who’ve helped me to stay centered. It’s not their approval that I seek - it’s their disappointment in me that I fear. There is no “I” in motorsports.

Weekends like this past one have been fewer and farther in between over the last year, and yet again, I have to thank the people I work with for that, even if it’s indirect.

And the last ironic layer here is that I’m typing this delayed in the airport that stranded me away from a family Christmas vacation seven years ago but then subsequently set the chain reaction of events in motion that led me to this current dream-come-true career.

Onto the next one. Onto the better days that lay ahead. We learn each time out.

Sooo…. That wasn’t ideal, but here’s the positive: the team as a whole fought through challenges all around today and both the 98 & 188 leave Road America higher in the points than when they came in while the 94 remains as the championship leader.

We are all immensely grateful for the safety of our BMWs that allowed Sam to walk away from a nasty incident this afternoon. There’s a lot of work ahead of the team, but we will rebuild and be back even stronger when we get to Barber next month. It’s just what we do.

We roll off the grid today P12 & P22 in the 92 & 38 respectively. We’re going to fight the good fight and see what we can make of a constantly changing VIR during the race. Be sure to tune in and watch at 2:15 this afternoon on @peacock or YouTube courtesy of @michelinusa if you can’t be with us at the track.

If you ARE at the track, you absolutely need to come visit Big G and all his friends at The Michelin Man’s Paddock Pals Party at the Podium at 12:15!!!!! And as always, look for Big G on the grid at 1:30 - he’ll be hard to miss….
