hey, itโ€™s me @emmaconard ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿป
donโ€™t let a kind thought go unspoken ๐Ÿ“ฃ
YEAR 8 BEGINS THIS FEBRUARY ๐Ÿค
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
hey friends! iโ€™m emma ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿปโฃ
โฃ
if youโ€™ve followed me on instagram for a while (@emmaconard) you might have seen me, every February, do this little thing I like to call โ€œ๐Ÿ“ ๐“๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ฌ ๐ˆโ€™๐ฆ ๐†๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐ž๐Ÿ๐ฎ๐ฅ ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซโ€. If youโ€™re new, or even if Iโ€™ve just never explained it to you before, hereโ€™s the story of that โฌ‡๏ธโฃ
โฃ
Back in 2019, I heard @mikezizolfo (๐˜ ๐˜–๐˜œโ€™๐˜™๐˜Œ ๐˜ˆ๐˜ž๐˜Œ๐˜š๐˜–๐˜”๐˜Œ ๐˜›๐˜๐˜ˆ๐˜•๐˜’ ๐˜ ๐˜–๐˜œ ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป) preach a message on gratitude and he challenged everyone to write down โ€œ5 Things A Day Youโ€™re Grateful Forโ€. And once I started posting, took off in the BEST way.โฃ
โฃ
It caught on and I started doing it Iโ€™ve gotten to see several other friends even begin to post their own โ€œ5 thingsโ€ on instagram (๐ฉ.
Doing my โ€œ5 Thingsโ€ has RADICALLY changed my outlook on life. I walk around every day, searching for the next thing to be grateful for instead of searching for problems or seeing a lack of something. โฃ
โฃ
So thatโ€™s why Iโ€™m here! Hopefully to encourage, bring a smile, ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ซ๐ž๐ฆ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ ๐ญ๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐‰๐„๐’๐”๐’ ๐ก๐š๐ฌ ๐ ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž๐ง ๐ฎ๐ฌ ๐ฌ๐จ ๐ฆ๐š๐ง๐ฒ ๐ ๐ข๐Ÿ๐ญ๐ฌ (youโ€™re one of them ๐Ÿ˜‰). So many wonderful, undeserving gifts, more than we can count.

And I hope, ultimately, that these posts make people feel loved and seen, the same way Jesus loves and sees YOU ๐Ÿ’›

and just like that, YEAR SEVEN of @5grateful begins!!! but this year is a bit differentโ€ฆ โ™ฅ๏ธโ™พ๏ธ

This account will be a bit quieter this year. While I truly believe social media is an amazing tool- and a powerful way to spread the joy of @5grateful- I felt strongly led to do something completely different this year.

There are a lot of messages I want to share and people I want to honor this year. It felt more meaningful, personal, and genuine to do it away from a screen.

soโ€ฆ check your mailboxes ladies and gentlemen. Iโ€™ll be sending out a batch of letters every Sunday in February! ๐Ÿ’Œ๐Ÿ“ซ taken in Grateful by @5grateful

everyone should say thank you to Parker for your @5grateful posts, because it wasnโ€™t even on my radar to reboot this girl until he texted me!!!

I have so many memories of Parker from college that make me absolutely beam with joy. Parker was truly one of my go-to people in college and when we graduated, I was so glad we stayed in touch via texting/calling and the annual Red Robin reunion dinner with @reeceloganjulian. And all of that warrants a @5grateful post alone. But my favorite memories of Parker happened when he moved back to LYH, and praise God he did.

And while the fun/carefree moments of college are what made our relationship, it was navigating the weird/confusing/chaotic parts of post-grad adulthood that really solidified it. Parker is patient enough to listen to my 11 minute voice memo life-updates. Parker is patient enough to drive me to my favorite restaurant an hour away, when they have a location half an hour closer. Heโ€™s patient enough to listen for two hours *and* ask detailed questions when I bring a whiteboard over to his house and map out my future for him. Heโ€™s patient enough to drive my roommates furniture to goodwill when we were moving. Heโ€™s patient enough to drive my mattress to the dump all the way out in Big Island. Iโ€™m a big acts of service girl. It takes a lot of patience to keep showing up for people, but Parker does. Thoughtful to buy my favorite champagne when I move. Dependable to have a spare key to my house. Heโ€™s kind, consistent, *funny*, HOSPITABLE, and easy-going. We all love him for it!

Cramming a million people into a townhouse for bachelor nights in college is a blast, but Iโ€™m even more grateful for people you can count on to keep a spare key to your house and show up at your front doorstep every time you lock yourself out. Iโ€™m grateful for people who can balance the highs and the lows. Parker, youโ€™re so important to me, I think so highly of you, and Iโ€™m 100% in your corner forever ๐Ÿ by @5grateful

lynchburg, va โ€ข home, the way home should be ๐Ÿก

Truly, my favorite part of most vacations is coming home to Lynchburg. I love my time away from this place, but I feel like when I come home, the sunsets looks brighter, my house feels warmer, and the familiarity of this place is sharpened ๐Ÿค

Bev once told me that in order to live somewhere, you need to find a good hairdresser, a good church, (and if I can add one thing) a good auto-body shop. Well, after my silly little car accident in November, I finally found all three here ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

โฌ†๏ธ Ultimately, whatโ€™s more important than those three is the PEOPLE. I love that Iโ€™m double booked for plans every night this week. I love that I always have someone to call if I get in trouble. I have the best people.

I love LYH in the summertime when it clears out. I love the Urgent Care on Timberlake. I love 5th Street Tires. I love that I can never go back to the Applebeeโ€™s on Candlerโ€™s Mountain. I love that I cannot go to Target without seeing someone I know. I love Lynchburg short-hand, culture, and the drama on our facebook page. I love being an hour from Roanoke and Cville and most importantly, BMB. I love White Hart on a snow day. I love driving around without a GPS and always knowing where I am. I love Monday nights and Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings. I love driving out to pray over my little log cabin every single week. I love the sunsets, the people, my Lynchburg Bucket List, and the fact that Iโ€™ve lived here for almost a decade.

Thereโ€™s more I can say, and a lot more that I deeply feel, but Iโ€™ll leave it at this: I feel a strong loyalty to this town. Even when my instinct is to run, something always keeps me here, and I never regret it. I feel lucky to have lived + traveled to a lot of places, but thereโ€™s nowhere like home ๐ŸŒ„ by @5grateful

Since Day 1 of freshman year at LU, Emma has been a forever type of friend. I lived almost exclusively out of her room on Floor 4, then Emma and I *actually* lived together post-grad for a summer. I briefly lived with her parents when I was moving back from Nash and needed somewhere to crash before my townhouse opened up. I celebrated at her wedding, weโ€™ve gone to Hilton Head together, had โ€œbaking daysโ€ at her house freshman year, and sheโ€™s my first text every Christmas morning ๐ŸŽ‚๐Ÿฅณ

Emma is incredibly hard working. Watching her start and finish PA school has been really cool to watch. Emma doesnโ€™t easily give up, even when things are hard and she has to move far from home. She is an incredibly consistent friend, and Iโ€™m grateful that when we get together itโ€™s like no time has passed at all. Sheโ€™s easy to talk to, and listens well.

Best of all, Emma is incredibly honest. Sheโ€™s someone I would trust one thousand percent when seeking advice. Iโ€™ve said this before and meant it: a dozen people could give me the same advice, but hearing it come from Emma makes it sound different. She loves me enough to tell me what I need to hear, not just want to hear, and she balances truth and love well. I respect her opinion more than most other people. Weโ€™ve also been friends for almost a decade now, so sheโ€™s earned that respect.

Emma, youโ€™re such an answered prayer!!! Praise God our friendship can survive long distance, and Praise God that soon long distance will be over ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿคธ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿชฉ I love you so so much, and am so grateful for you ๐Ÿ’› by @5grateful

oh how far weโ€™ve come from when I was helping you in YOUR kindergarten class!!!

I love Kristen so much. She welcomed me at Big Island like no one else. Truly, my first year at BI, her little class felt like mine. She trusted me when I had no idea what I was doing. And she cheered me on when my roles kept changing. She was my practicum mentor during the wildfire of 2023 and gave me so much grace as I was coming off the heels of teaching 4th grade. She has helped me adjust to Kindergarten and has adopted one of my little kiddos into her family (literally ๐Ÿ˜‰), even going above and beyond to make an extra 100 Days Hat. Kristen ALWAYS steps up to go the extra mile and help at work, whether itโ€™s keeping us informed with the politics, doing dismissal duty, or moving grades 100 times. And that hard-working character isnโ€™t just for school- Iโ€™ve benefitted from it outside of work. Kristen went above and beyond to help me move in November- packing everything into boxes with me and driving 3 loads to my new apartment. I love getting dinner with her, the glimpses of her I see at school, poking my head into her class, and being her friend ๐Ÿ’™

Kristen is hard-working, tough, and kind. Sheโ€™s a phenomenal mom, always bragging about her kids. Sheโ€™s an amazing and creative teacher. Sheโ€™s an awesome friend who I always love having in my corner as an advocate or go-to for advice. Kristen truly is one of my favorites at Big Island, and I am so grateful for her ๐Ÿพ

i ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ my church!!!

briefly going back to the OG format of @5grateful because thereโ€™s too much to say about @thehopecompany_ ๐Ÿ–คโš“๏ธ
โฃ
1. Iโ€™m grateful, first and foremost, for ๐๐‰ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ƒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ . Iโ€™m grateful that their reputation is such that when I told my friends I was going to attend HopeCo, their immediate reactions were to praise PJ and Doug and the influence they had on them at LU. They are clearly easy-going and relational, but equally uncompromising and firm on the gospel. โฃ
2. I am SO grateful for this churchโ€™s ๐ฉ๐ซ๐ข๐จ๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ณ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐๐ข๐›๐ฅ๐ž. The first year I attended HopeCo, we went through the book of Mark verse by verse. It was also while I was attending this church that I finished reading the entire Bible for the first time. Everything we do (from the name of our church, to our mission, to the model in which we do ministry) flows from His Word. You will not leave this place without learning more about the Bible. โฃ
3. Iโ€™m grateful for my ๐œ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ here. For our groupchats, brunches, dedicating babies, celebrating birthdays, getting coffee or doing our nails or helping me move. Iโ€™m grateful for their consistency and the bond we have.
4. This church is ๐ก๐ž๐š๐ฅ๐ญ๐ก๐ฒ. I am grateful for the transparency of this place. I am so grateful for Selah Sundayโ€™s and the regular ability to rest as a body. You can tell when you walk into a church if the leaders are walking fast or slow, and people walk slow through HopeCo. Iโ€™m grateful that healthy things GROW, and I got to witness people literally walking over hills to get a seat in Leesville because they know God moves here. โฃ
5. This church is ๐‰๐Ž๐˜๐…๐”๐‹. That was the first thing I noticed about this place. I think that stems from the health of it, but you will leave this place refreshed and restored every week. Thatโ€™s the mark of Jesus. I really canโ€™t put words to this- you just have to experience it for yourself. โฃ
โฃ
my favorite memory: our last Sunday at Leesville, bawling my eyes out (iโ€™m a sentimental girl), and thinking equally about how grateful I am for the past two years here, and how excited I feel about the future! by @5grateful

NEIGHBORSSSSSS ๐Ÿก

THEY ARE SO HOSPITABLE. Iโ€™m so grateful that I can spend 10 hours at their house after church on a Sunday. They have such an open-door policy, and I love that I can walk in to their house without knocking, fall asleep on their couch, or leave to get food and then come right back. They are the best brunch hosts and live out โ€œthe more the merrierโ€. I LOVE BEING NEIGHBORS!!!

Jez- truly my #1 hype man. Nobody makes me laugh harder, but on the flipside, NOBODY laughs harder at my jokes than Jez does. I got to know Jez first through the PB&J show back when I was in college (CRAZY!). Iโ€™m so grateful that weโ€™re still friends, even if that means screaming at each other during the super bowl, or screaming about boys, or just screaming in general. Jez works hard, clearly loves his family, and (i think) is the unofficial leader, glue, and master chef of our Sunday brunches.

Sam- MY GIRL. She is *the most* protective of her friends and she is fiercely loyal. Last fall, the day I found out I was moving out of my townhouse, Sam had me over to their apartment within an hour of me texting her. I love talking about the Bible with her (whether thatโ€™s our matching study bibles or the bible recap). I can be totally honest with her and she really has become such a close friend over these last few years. She works SO hard (iโ€™ll never forget cheering her on as she graduated nursing school with Lij in their living room) but still makes time for her friends. Sam is the best!

Lij- he plays hard to get, but I know deep down heโ€™s obsessed with me, and Iโ€™m even more obsessed with him. He has the best laugh when I tickle him. Heโ€™s my little bestie, and I love love love getting to watch him grow up ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿฉต

I canโ€™t tell you what a gift their community at church, and the familiarity they represent, has meant to me this past season. They are consistent, encouraging, and I love the three of them with my whole heart!!! by @5grateful

4th grade 4ever โœ๏ธ๐Ÿ““๐Ÿ“‹

Teaching Halesโ€™ class last year was the best unexpected gift at Big Island. Nothing prepared me more for having my own class this year. I am so grateful that Hales trusted me to take care of her kids.

Hales is still helping me with my class this year. Whether itโ€™s buying something off my teacher registry, giving me her radio when I forget to charge mine, or having one of her kids run a jacket up from the playground when my kids forget, Hales always has my back. Sheโ€™ll fill me in on what Iโ€™ve missed on the upper hall and I love the little glimpses I get to see of her throughout my day. Hales really took the reigns and texted reminders out in our groupchat for our *secret project* at work (wink wink). She looks out for the kids in my class, especially since some of our students are related. She knows my kids names. And I love that she still uses some slides/systems in her class that I made when I was her long-term sub ๐Ÿคฃ

Best of all is the Hales I get to see outside of school. I love our little girl gang community. I love our NYT Games groupchat and our โ€œBIES 4EVERโ€ groupchat & brunch dates & thereโ€™s hopefully many more girls nights to come. Even though Iโ€™m newer to BIES, Iโ€™m grateful for how included Iโ€™ve felt since day one.

Your class will always be my first, Hales! Iโ€™ll never forget that opportunity and I love you for it ๐Ÿ’• by @5grateful

coming up with an adjective to describe Mac was easy ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ๐Ÿค

what they say about the first year of teaching being the hardest is (hopefully) true. Macโ€™s first year was crazier than mine. But I got to watch her go through it, and no matter what was happening, she handled everything with grace and patience, and fully loved the kids in her class. I wish we couldโ€™ve taught at the same school, but I play Macโ€™s same instrumental playlist in my classroom, Mac got me gorgeous string lights for my class, and I got to inherit Macโ€™s old filing cabinet (which still has her name on it, and I wonโ€™t take it off because it makes me smile seeing her name). Even though weโ€™re not teaching together, it feels like we are. Once a bulldog, always a bulldog ๐Ÿพ

Ultimately, apart from how amazing of a teacher Mac is, sheโ€™s an even better friend. I love getting dinner with her, or game nights at her apartment. Mac is just as gentle with her friends as she is with her kids, and she gives comforting advice and encouragement. Teaching can be crazy, but itโ€™s nice talking about someone who gets it and has been there, AND who views it all through the lens of work being a mission field for Jesus.

Iโ€™m obsessed with her space themed classroom and the cute meaning behind it, and I am 100% so excited to cheer her on in May as we celebrate the next season in her life ๐Ÿ’’ I love you, Mac! by @5grateful
