Unrolling 15 meters of the Painting by the Meter project. More rolls will follow.
The question behind this project is the practical usefulness of art versus its aesthetic and symbolic value.
The idea of buying a painting by the meter, like buying fabric to make clothes, seems banal and reduces the artwork to product made to fit a target customer.
At the same time, the painting itself, extended to this length, becomes impractical and unusable. It resists function.
Art is not useful in the everyday sense and yet it is essential. It documents the past and reflects the present. It captures our thoughts and feelings. It can challenge and comfort. It connects people.
It is enormous and cannot be measured.

Still in progress… It’s taking me so long, the end is nowhere near.
I wanted to make a larger (70x50 cm) fineliner drawing with colours and it turned out to be a lot more work than I’ve imagined. It is going to be one of the kind for sure, as I’m not making a fineliner drawing of this size again.

Still working on this drawing and it will probably take me a long time to finish since it’s quite a large piece (70x50 cm) for this type of technique. I’m also adding more colours and am not yet sure, how the final image will look like.

Work in progress…
When I was in Portland, I bought some red and blue size 0.05 fineliners, which are starting to fade out and I can’t buy this size anywhere at home. A regular pen turned out to be a pretty good replacement.

This week celebrating World octopus day, October 8th.

Interesting fact No. 2: From ancient times, the octopus has often been perceived as a monster or a villain.
Living in the deep, mysterious places under the sea, with their boneless, transforming bodies and eight self-thinking arms, witty and intelligent, they seem perfect for the roles of monsters in mythology, literature, and cinema.

On 8th October, we celebrate World Octopus Day to raise awareness about these unique and fascinating animals.
To mark the occasion, I’ve created several stickers and reels highlighting some amazing facts about octopuses. I will be sharing them with you throughout this week.

Interesting fact No. 1: Octopuses don’t have rigid bones except for their beak.
Their boneless bodies allow them to change and imitate shape, slip through tiny cracks and “travelling light”, moving effortlessly across the ocean floor.

Fineliner drawing on a composition of clothing tags, museum and travel tickets.
I like the idea of repurposing the commercial tags and giving them new artistic value.
Featuring here, among others, a museum ticket with the portrait of Giovanna Tornabuoni, one of my favourite artworks, by the Renaissance painter Domenico Ghirlandaio.
