Toni Frissell captured women, fashion, sport and modern life with an energy that still feels remarkably fresh decades later. Working for Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Life, Look and Sports Illustrated, she photographed everyone from fashion icons to Winston Churchill, Eleanor Roosevelt and the Kennedy family.

In 1953, Frissell became the first woman photographer hired by Sports Illustrated — a milestone in the history of both the publication and women in professional photography. Her photographs are spontaneous, cinematic and full of movement. Less about the perfect pose, more about the moment itself.
