My experience being black is feeling like you always have to be the best to even be listened to or respected. Growing up i used to be very shy, not outspoken, insecure, and feeling like i always had to “prove” something. Prove that i was just an intelligent, determined, beautiful, and talented as my white peers. When you’re mixed you feel like you’re too white for the black kids and too black for the white kids. There’s always a discussion of having the “good hair” or being “light skin” or “talking white” all types of crazy ignorant shit. I remember soooooo many comments being made about my hair growing up and just not understanding why people were so OFFENDED or SHOCKED by black people and culture. It’s like black people are an enigma that people just can’t comprehend. I remember always being compared to my lighter skinned sister and people saying shit like we are lying about being sisters, or “don’t you wish you had green eyes” or looked like her as if we both aren’t beautiful black queens @odesser 😂😂...... i remember going on vacation with my white mom and her boyfriend and my sister and people just staring trying to understand the relationship like they just adopted me from Ethiopia or some shit.... since very little I’ve been exposed to this bullshit
I’m forever grateful for my mom for raising me in a way that made me embrace being black and trying sooooooo hard to give me the same opportunities as privileged kids so i won’t be another statistic. My mom is my number 1 supporter and i don’t know where i would be today without her unconditional love and support. I mean I’m planning on attending medical school next year !!!!! Gonna be the first black doctor in my family !
