In celebration of the new Social Distortion single, album and tour I thought I’d share the original gouache painting for a gig poster I did for the band in May of 2012. A two-night run at The Knitting Factory in Reno, NV. I did two mugshots. One of Capone and one of Dillinger. The lettering on this one was metallic silver and the Dillinger poster had metallic copper. The colors of money. One was in reds and the other in blues. Two prominent colors of the album they were touring on. These originals get scanned and color separated and fine-tuned digitally but the heavy lifting is ALWAYS done by hand. T.S.O.L.March 25, 2018Shea’s TavernReno, Nevada12x18Screen print on paper—-I regrettably missed T.S.O.L.’s final show this past weekend but they, along with Social Distortion, I’ve seen more than any other band over the years. First time being in Anaheim in 1990 at the tail end of the Joe Wood era.I have been extremely fortunate to have been able to work with Jack Grisham on several projects including t-shirt designs for the band and a couple posters. This poster being the last poster I did for them. The lettering glows in the dark. TSOL is a cornerstone to punk rock, especially in Orange County and Southern California since 1981. To have been aware of them in the 80’s and then in 1990 seeing them for the first time, and then later being able to make art for them, is something I’m extremely proud of.
