She doesn’t need permission to play football.

She doesn’t need anyone’s approval to take the field.

And she sure doesn’t need to prove that football is only for boys.

Immy is 8 years old, and she’s out there doing what she loves. Taking hits. Getting back up. Learning the game. Coming back for more.

That’s football.

Our 716 Blizzard players had the opportunity to watch her play, and we couldn’t be prouder to support a young girl who’s challenging expectations simply by doing what she loves.

The game is for those willing to put in the work.

Never let somebody else’s expectations decide how far you can go.

Who inspired you to chase something people said you couldn’t do?

Tell us in the comments.

She’s 8 years old. She’s playing tackle football. And she’s already showing us what it means to break barriers.

When Immy’s dad reached out to the 716 Blizzard, he shared something that stuck with us.

Immy became the first girl to play football in the history of her Catholic school sports program. She’s learning the game, taking hits, getting back up, and proving she belongs on that field just like anybody else.

So some of our Blizzard players showed up to watch her play.

Because this is bigger than football.

It’s about making sure the next generation of girls knows they don’t have to fit somebody else’s expectations. They can be tough. They can compete. They can chase the game they love.

And sometimes, all it takes is seeing someone who looks like you to realize what’s possible.

We’re not just building a football team. We’re building a community.

Immy, keep playing. Keep learning. Keep showing up. We’re rooting for you.

❄️ The future of women’s football starts with the next generation.

Drop some love for Immy in the comments! 👇

Stand up for Immy. ❄️♥️🏈

Our Co-Owner Brooke Jackson caught up with @news4buffalo to highlight the 716 Blizzard’s full support for 8-year-old Imogen “Immy” Painter from Erie, PA.

Immy played full-contact football for the Erie Catholic Knights the entire regular season. The reward for her dedication? Getting pulled from the active roster just 4 days before playoffs simply because she’s a girl.
Girls belong on the gridiron. When one of us is benched by outdated rules, we ALL speak up.

Drop a 🏈 in the comments if you stand with Immy,
and SHARE this to amplify her voice across WNY and NWPA!

PLEASE DO NOT SKIP, READ BELOW! Tag the new outlets!

Hello all,

Immy was kicked off her football team today.

A singular parent anonymously emailed the Bishop of Erie, complaining that girls should not be allowed to play football, and whining about how unfair it was to their kids that the 716 Blizzard (a professional women’s football team in Buffalo) showed her favoritism. When in reality, they were just showing her support for being one of the first girls in Erie Catholic history to play.
(Editing this because although we believed Immy was the first, she is not. A woman reached out to me and said she played football for St. George 30 years ago, and that it was a fight then too. It was also hidden from public knowledge, hence the reason we thought Immy was the first.)
So although her football coaches, the director of the Erie Knights, the Athletic Director of Erie Catholic, the President of Erie Catholic, and even her teammates, all agreed she was permitted to play/were supportive of her playing, and although she has repeatedly shown up to practices and games for the entire season and done everything she’s been asked to do, she has now been removed from her team. 4 days before they head into playoffs.
I’m beyond livid.
An 8-year-old girl was punished for just showing up to play a game she loves, because a parent was jealous their kids weren’t the center of attention, and decided to pull out and dust off an archaic rule from decades ago regarding girls not being allowed to play tackle football.
Though she’s not allowed to play, what she is allowed to do, is dress in full uniform and stand on the sidelines on Saturday to support her team.
I’m inviting anyone who can, to please come to the game wearing pink and/or the #22, at 3:00 pm on Saturday at Hagerty to stand/sit in solidarity with her, and show her and the Diocese that girls do belong in football, and she has way more people rooting for her than against her.
If Jesus could flip tables, so can I.

Imagine being 8 years old and stepping onto a football field where you’ve never seen many girls like you play.

Now imagine looking over and seeing women who have played the game, competed, and fought for their place in football cheering you on.

That’s what showing up means.

Our Blizzard players went out to support Immy, an 8-year-old girl making history in her school’s football program.

She might be young, but she’s already reminding us why representation matters.

The next generation shouldn’t have to wonder if they belong. They should know they do.

Little girls are watching. Let’s give them something worth believing in.

Drop a ❄️ for Immy!
