A very successful Westside Walk this morning! Thank you to all the players and parents for their hard work fundraising for Gilda’s Club. Rapids FC raised a little over $7,500 and helped Gilda’s smash their original goal of $225,000. As someone who volunteers weekly there it is very much appreciated. Senior Sunday! Tyler has always had school spirit, especially when he was little. He loved the yearly Husky Hike in the fall and always wanted the either the face paint or decals the school offered. Fast forward to high school, I’m not surprised at all that he’s in the marching band. #classof2027 #seniorsunday #tylerjames by @76mountainmama

I will never forget the morning of 09/11/01. It was a Tuesday and I had psychiatric nursing clinical at Metro Hospital. I got there early to get my assignment and decided to go to the room. We were working with patients that had knee or hip replacements and had been sent to a rehab program to get started on physical therapy. There were two or three patients in the room and they were very quiet staring at the television in the corner. I asked my patient what they were watching and she said The Today Show and that something was going on in New York, it wasn’t clear what, but the World Trade Center appeared to have been struck by a plane. A few minutes later we watched in horror as a second plane struck the WTC on live television and at that point I knew that this wasn’t random. This was intentional and the world had changed in a matter of seconds.

Our instructor called us together and said class was over for the day, no one said much.
So home I went. Mike was at a training off site from his job at the airport. He wasn’t too far behind me. As the events of the day unfolded we just numb. I had family in Manhattan. One of our best friends was in law school in the city and ended up having to try and outrun the debris cloud after the towers collapsed. He was thankfully okay we found out later. He was stranded in Manhattan overnight, helped numerous people, and soon after joined the military. Who hated us this much to do something like this? We would not have to wait long for the answer. We will never forget. by @76mountainmama

This year Mike and I decided to join forces for the West Side Walk. He is heading up a team for Rapids FC (made up of his U11 and U12 players, their families and our family). I am passionate about this organization, having volunteered there just about weekly for the last 4 years. Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids provides cancer and grief support services free of charge to its members.
