On September 25, 2026, artist Liu Jiayu’s solo exhibition Still, Life officially opened at 798CUBE in Beijing. The exhibition runs through March 31, 2027. Curated by media theorist Jussi Parikka, the exhibition features Frederic Fol Leymarie as Art and Technology Advisor. Bringing together large-scale real-time data installations, AI-generated systems, machine painting, light, sound, photography, sculpture, and other media, the exhibition presents Liu Jiayu’s ongoing research in recent years into nature, computation, and perception, while tracing the evolution of her practice since 2014. For Parikka, Liu Jiayu’s practice presents “an inversion of the sensible.” Air, wind, waves, marine life, electromagnetic waves, and even quantum fluctuations are transformed into living matter within deep learning, while computation becomes a method for studying nature. As Parikka observes, Liu reverses the conventional relationship between nature and computation, asking: “can studying nature help us understand computation?” In her practice, the natural and the synthetic are not opposites, but interconnected realms that mirror, permeate, and mediate one another. The Chinese title Shuang Yao(双曜) originally refers to the Sun and the Moon as two luminous celestial bodies that reflect one another. Here, shuang (“two”) also evokes two worlds that draw close to, mirror, and continually permeate one another: nature and computation. Yao (“luminosity”) represents the light that flows throughout the exhibition, as well as the energy of elemental media and the experience of perception. The English title, Still, Life, maintains an unresolved tension between stillness and vitality, and between the still life and the living. Across the exhibition, computation and intelligence are approached as environmental processes rather than systems enclosed within machine simulations, while synthetic worlds remain embedded within the Earth’s own circulatory processes. As an institution devoted to cutting-edge practice across art, technology, and new media, 798CUBE has consistently engaged with the complex relationship between technology, nature, and human condition in the digital age. This exhibition is 798CUBE's second solo presentation of a local artist—a pivotal step in the institution's deepening academic trajectory. As a representative of China's digitally native generation of media artists, Liu challenges the nature–machine divide with her planetary vision. With computation as her brush and data as her landscape, she folds algorithms into a distinctly Eastern way of observing nature. Welcome to Chaosmosis: A WANG Yuyang Exhibition—a thought experiment where art and technology interlace. Here, machines sleepwalk, bacteria glow, language transforms into DNA, and even soil seems to possess consciousness. With “techno-philosophy” at the core, WANG Yuyang interweaves artificial intelligence, synthetic biology, and other emerging fields into his practice, dissolving the boundaries between sculpture, painting, and installation. Traversing more than a decade of artistic exploration, this exhibition marks the artist’s first major institutional solo presentation in Beijing. Symbiosis stands quietly outdoors, probing the entanglements of humans and machines. In the foyer, Gaze rolls through the space, challenging the limits of vision and autonomy. Meanwhile, the Moon Series paintings expose the illusory truth behind color through “false reproduction.” From Dream, activated by the artist’s sleeping brainwaves, to Biological Klein Blue, cultivated through synthetic biology, each work constructs a fluid theater suspended between order and chaos. More than a retrospective, this is a metamorphosis. At the intersection of the Anthropocene and the age of AI, WANG Yuyang opens a perspective that moves beyond human centrality, inviting us to rethink existence between collapse and regeneration.
