POSTS STORIES REELS

Looking for a good summer lake/beach read? I loved Reasons to be Loved by You by @hannahbrown (and I cannot even with that cover- it is one of the most beautiful covers). In the book, Nikki returns home to the lake for an extended 4th of July weekend. Of course, much drama and romance ensues. I thought this would be a great read for a trip to our family lake cabin for the 4th of July weekend. It did not disappoint. (Swipe for a picture of our family dinner- a celebration of my wonderful parents’ 80th birthdays.)

If you are looking for a fun summer read, pick it up!

What is a book you have enjoyed so far this summer?

About a month ago, my family attended the most magical wedding. It was actually fabulous. (Swipe for a wedding pic!) Of course, I took my book and a gnome and snapped a few pictures. But sometimes life gets a little lifey, and I didn’t post the pictures. Let’s be real. I haven’t posted for ages. I’m okay with that.

Now here we are at the beginning of summer. I am excited for reading again and for summer reading and for all of the reading possibilities. But first, let’s talk about Tom Lake.

Why, oh why, did I sleep on Tom Lake? This book is amazing. The cover is beautiful. I did some audio and some print. The audio is narrated by Meryl Streep, and I wanted it to go on and on and on. I love the way Ann Patchett told the story of Lara. I love the cherry farm. I love books where I get to follow people through their lives. I love hearing about their decisions and how those decisions impact their relationships. I absolutely adore everything about this book. I know I will relisten to it again. It may become a yearly necessity.

What is a book you recently read and loved?

I have been reading a string of very meh books. I needed a tried and true favorite to help me look forward to reading again. Evelyn Hugo is amazing. I am listening this time, and the audiobook is fabulous. If you somehow haven’t read this yet, you should probably do it right now.

Also, it’s my most favorite time of the year. It’s Bunny Gnome time. They are the best. :)

How do you break a reading slump?

I am home, but my brain is still on the beach. 🏖️ Here is a stack of the books I took for my 6 day beach trip. I finished 3 of them. My rule of thumb is to take at least one book for each day I am gone. Excessive? Not at all. 🤣

What book would you add to my stack?

I love beach reading. It’s the best. I am currently reading So Old, So Young, which is the story of friends and their shifting friendships over the years. So far, so good. Oh! And I am rereading Evelyn Hugo. Because what is better on a beach? I am hoping to start The Compound soon.

What are you currently reading?

I’ve been feeling a little under the weather this week. Until today, my mind hasn’t been able to focus on reading. So, what does any couch ridden, sensible person (whose spouse doesn’t support their secret Mount Everest obsession) do? That’s right. Binge any Mount Everest documentary/show/movie available. Today, I started rereading Into Thin Air for probably the fourth or fifth time. It is still amazing. Jon Krakauer gives us his narrative nonfiction account of climbing Everest during the catastrophic 1996 climbing season. It is fascinating, gripping, terrifying, interesting, and absolutely unputdownable. I’m basically living on Mount Everest right now. I don’t know when I will get back to Iowa. Maybe once it is 60 degrees again and this snow has melted. 😂

Do you have any secret (or not so secret) obsessions? :)

This book is absolutely, fantastically unhinged and fabulous. It is crazy, dark, hysterical, and amazing. How far would you go to secure your dream house? Not as far as Margo, that’s for sure. I had no idea what she was going to do next. Margo kept me guessing and surprised me over and over again. I could not stop reading. When I finished, I had a huge book hangover. I started and DNF’d 5 books. Nothing was as interesting as trying to keep up with Margo. 😂 If you like a dark thriller, pick it up!

I was so excited to experience this with @sarahreadsinchi during our impromptu buddy read. I highly recommend reading with a friend, so you can discuss the craziness. 😂

It’s time for a bookshelf rearrange. I’m about 3/4 of the way through. I don’t love it. I’m going to keep adjusting until it feels right. My shelves will continue to live in chaos. 😂

Do you continually rearrange your shelves?

A new favorite, favorite.

The Correspondent
By Virginia Evan

This book! This book is incredibly good. It is gentle, emotional, and exquisite. The main character, Sybil, is an elderly woman who is stubborn and a little opinionated, but infinitely lovable. The story is told through Sybil’s correspondence to the people in her life. The letters hold heartbreak, joy, devastating grief, love, humor, friendship, and so much life. I love beautiful books about real life. The Correspondent is that and more. If you haven’t read it yet, I encourage you to pick it up!

Side note- The audiobook is amazingness. It is a full cast of fantastic narrators.

Another side note- This book has made me want to start writing letters to people.

What is your favorite book of the year so far?

Last•Now•Next

Last• Anatomy of an Alibi• A super solid thriller. It kept me guessing. I literally gasped out loud several times. I read some hard copy and also listened to the fabulous full cast narration of the audiobook. (It includes one of my favorite narrators, Saskia Maarleveld!!) Thank you @librofm and @prhaudio for the amazing audiobook!

Now• The Future Saints• I do love music fiction and Ashley Winstead! So far, I am really enjoying being immersed in a band that has been sky rocketed to stardom, while witnessing the characters process heavy grief amid their crazy lives.

Next• The Correspondent• Reading for my IRL book club. I have only heard good things, so fingers crossed!

Tell me a book you read last, now, or next. :)

For the past few years, I have participated in this challenge. I really enjoy picking books from my shelves to read in the coming year. Will I actually be reading them? Hard to say. I am a mood reader. I just read whatever looks good at that moment. I am also an enneagram 9, so decisions are not always the easiest for me. Picking a new book to read can sometimes be surprisingly difficult. Having an already put together stack of TBR books like this can be really helpful in my life. :)

What book are you looking forward to reading this year?

📚2025 Reading Wrap Up📚

I read 63 books. My favorite, favorite book pile increased… Atmoshere, Hello Beautiful, and Once There Were Wolves. Charlotte McConaghy solidified her spot as one of my favorite authors. Books brought me joy. I really loved talking to people about books. Overall, a great reading year.

A review of my 2025 goals-

1. Read 100 books. Obviously, that did not happen. Life got in the way. I am not mad about it. I I will try yet again.

2. Utilize Libby and my local library. I did go to the library a few times. I used Libby a little. I want to do this more in 2026.

3. Read for entertainment, enjoyment, and escape. Success!

4. Talk about books with people. Done!

Things I want to do differently in 2026-

1. Actually write down all of my reading goals, so I remember all of them. 😂

2. Follow through on monthly reading wrap ups. They stimulate a lot of conversations, so I like to do them. I just didn’t this year.

3. Use a reading journal or at least add comments to my reading list in my notes app.

4. Actually put books I want to read on hold in Libby.

Do you have any reading goals for the upcoming year? Any book recommendations for me?
