We’re proud to celebrate 826DC student author Nas, whose powerful piece, One Shot, opened last week’s book talk at Solid State Books featuring poets P. Scott Cunningham and Clint Smith.

One Shot is featured in our newest anthology, Living in the Storm, created with students from HD Woodson Collegiate Academy.

Moments like these remind us why we do this work: creating opportunities for young people to share their stories and ensuring their voices are heard throughout our city.

Recently, our co-founder Dave Eggers was featured on PBS Newshour, where he spoke about the importance of making the literary arts free, accessible, and available to all young people.

One of our proudest moments this school year was launching the 826DC Substack!

This new platform has allowed us to share our students’ stories, poems, and ideas with an even wider audience, making their writing more accessible beyond the classroom.

At 826DC, we’re passionate about uplifting young authors, and we’re pretty sure some of our students are among the youngest writers publishing on the Substack platform. Their creativity, insight, and voices deserve to be celebrated and shared.

Earlier this month, we celebrated the release of our newest student anthologies, “Living in the Storm” and “Do You Understand”, at our Big Book Bash. 💫 It was a powerful evening filled with poetry, storytelling, and the incredible voices of young writers across DC. We’re so proud of the creativity, honesty, and courage these students poured into every page.

We loved joining NBC4 to celebrate Living in the Storm, our newest anthology written by the incredible student authors of H.D. Woodson Collegiate Academy.
