Here’s a series of film photos I took of @843surf out at the Washout on Folly Beach 🌊🎞️

This was my first real chance to put my new 70–210mm lens to work, and surf photography was one of the biggest reasons I bought it. Being able to reach surfers farther out in the lineup completely changes the kinds of images I can make.

I also got lucky to have an awesome surfer out there who was making the most of the waves and giving me plenty of opportunities to capture some fun moments.

I have a feeling this is just the beginning. Surf photography is something I’ve wanted to explore for a while, and I think it’s going to become one of my main projects alongside documenting the Lowcountry on film.

These were all shot on Portra 800, and I’m excited to see where this new direction takes me.

Beach days during the Winter still exist!! Air temps in the low 50’s and the water temp around 45, isn’t necessarily warm, but it will do! A lot of the @oceansurfshop crew making do with the surprise fun wave yesterday morning!! Lukas Petrillo @lukas_petrillo at home on the nose to start off followed by Blake @blake.schieffer doing his version of the same! 📸🌴🌊

I was shooting with an older DSLR with a CCD sensor which emulates filmic color rendering. I was also using settings that are Kodak Portra 400/160 film-like and it definitely shows with these images. It was my first attempt so definitely satisfying!🙌

The end of an era. Funny story, Micah was my birthday gift in previous relationship, which when we got together I felt I wasn’t ready for a dog. I told her not to for days when we moved in together 😭

I had no idea the blessing she gave me, and still cannot thank her enough for being smart and ignoring me.

The best and sweetest boy. You always kept everything and everyone together, and I really pray I get to see you again..

Just a huge reminder to myself, to constantly engulf myself into everyday; and to live passionately, because we never know what the future holds.

Thank you to everyone for all the love and beautiful memories through my life. Thank you Micah for being the best puppy brother to all your family, walking partner, food date, listener, play-fighter, snuggler, ladies man, and just everything I wanted. Thanks for always doing all you could to keep me happier and bring a smile to my face when it was hard to. I love you Micah🚀🏄🏼😇❤️‍🔥 till next time by @843surf
