Happy 30th to @stonesthrow @pntbtrwlf šŸ–¤šŸ–¤šŸ–¤
#RIPCharisma
I’ve been listening to, and collecting records from Stones Throw since my first introduction to Charisma & PBW in the mid-90’s. I was fortunate to have seen PBW do his thing @mjqofficial way back when (late 90’s, pictured here), and after a show at Echo Lounge, Wild Child and Planet Asia stayed at my house on Wylie st (2003ish), celebrating Wild Child’s first solo release, Secondary Protocol.
Wild Child and I have crossed paths a few times, and had some gut-busting, fall on the floor giggle fests of our own, after entering the blunt zone. Good times, great people.
Stones Throw Fest coming up in October. Keep swiping for line-up schedule. You know it’s gonna be dope.

Let’s take a moment to honor some folks that actually lived at 939-PUNK house. Back in the day! BJay, Frank, and Duke. @officialturasatana didn’t live there, but she gets the badge of honor for being friendly to this motley crew.
RIP BJay, Duke and Tura šŸ–¤šŸ–¤šŸ–¤

Is you is or is you ain’t old enough to remember punk shows in the 90’s?
How about the Wreck Room in ATL?
Here’s a blast from the past for ya.
Victim 9 - Jerry, Pete, and Jared were killin in it back in the day with their metal flavored licks mixed into raw powerful punk rock that packed out the Wreck Room and the Somber Reptile mid to late 90’s.

At The Earl with Gentleman Jesse, Jessi Zazu, Jared Swilley, and John Kang, circa 2009.
šŸ“ø: @stryker_rogue

I will never forget the night I met Those Darlins. I was loading up the fridge with beers, at my house on Bonaventure Avenue (just a short walk away from the notorious Clermont Lounge), when I got a call from my roommate, Beej. He asked me if Armando could bring a band over that needs a place to stay for the night.
The timing was perfect, with a fridge full of beer, ā€œSend ā€˜em overā€, I said excitedly. I had no clue who was about to throw down with me, but I was prepared for fun.

This was late 2007, and Those Darlins were just starting out. Armando walked them in, and introduced me to the band. Jessi tackled me!, and in a matter of seconds we were rolling around on the floor laughing our asses off, saying our first words ever to each other, which were, ā€œYou rule! Thanks for letting us stay, we love you!ā€ ~ Jessi Z, and ā€œHahaa! I love you too duder. Wanna beer?ā€ ~ me. Fast friends. šŸ–¤

We stayed in touch, and hung out a lot! We party partied and had too much fun every time.
I followed their development as a band, and listened as they evolved into their sound. Every new song better than the last, and a shift.. Jessi was writing prolifically, with what felt like more songs than she knew what to do with. Just amazing really.

I often think about Jessi Zazu and the many songs she wrote while playing with Those Darlins. I also wonder about all the unwritten songs she had yet to write… gone too soon, at the age of 28. šŸ’”

When you pass out at a punkhouse, this is to be expected. Especially if Ben and Lou were around. Die Slaughter Haus II, Atl, circa 2001. Ben Eberbaugh and Lou Gallouch will spill a bag of weed on you, slap some Bin Laden stickers on you, tape your shoes on you, and light farts over your head.

And take pictures of it, with your camera.
Fun for later. Good times!

I had the pleasure of catching this band, False Starts, perform at P.I.T. Records and Books recently in Brooklyn. The show was great, like a raw, quaint rebellion taking place with distortion and growls amongst a small group of familiar faces… it reminded me of how it felt to be a teenager. In fact, a portion of the crowd have been friends of mine since I was a teenager. It was so much fun catching up with old friends! Always feels good to be with like-minded homies that I love spending time with, and mostly chatting about music, books, and a wide array of art forms.
I still get as excited as a did when I was 16, when discovering a new band, artist, or author.
Any time someone comes at me with a ā€œHave you heard of thisā€¦ā€; ā€œThere’s this new band (artist) that you gotta check out from..ā€; or ā€œWhat’ve you been getting into lately?ā€ … I light up like a kid on Christmas morning, anticipating the awesomeness that is coming my way! šŸŽ¶šŸ¤—šŸŽ¶
One of the greatest discoveries for me at this show:
John Vasquez Mejias (lead singer of False Starts) has had a book published, The Puerto Rican War.
Mejias’ book is a work of art, which showcases his talent for woodwork. Yeah, each ā€œpageā€ is actually photographs of the meticulously carved wood blocks, telling the story, in fable form, of the Puerto Rican Independence movement.
I highly recommend getting yourself a copy.

Peter, Blake, their sweet little baby girl, and Brent Hinds, in East Atlanta, April.4, 2024 (found this while digging through my photos 🄰).

Twisty Cats at TV Eye, NYC, July.9, 2023
Looking like an Angel on stage, Blake was expecting at the time of this performance.
@twisty_cats put on an amazing show @tveyenyc which was the cherry on top of a grand event put on by @hayleygianoli , the total babe mastermind behind @foxyvintagefair pop up event that evening.
Chalking it up to another fun, and successful evening with friends, family, and rock n’ roll maniacs.
Yeah, you bet I threw in some family photos!

Ulcerate at The Earl, Friday, 11/7/25
@ulcerateofficial @badearl
Video: @stryker_rogue

Ulcerate is an Avant-Garde / Progressive Death Metal band from New Zealand that played a crushing set that left the audience in complete awe.
My buddy @slum_master brought it to my attention that the packed house was motionless and spellbound during most of Ulcerate’s set. by @939_punk

Die Slaughter Haus I • First photo of Ben Eberbaugh, Colin Mee and Jared Swilley taken by @stryker_rogue
Second photo of Jessica Juggz aka Stryker Rogue and Max taken by Ben Eberbaugh.
Earlier on this particular evening, Ben and I went to get beer at the gas station on 14th st. near Peachtree st intersection, close to the Interstate. When we pulled up, there was a pimp ass limousine at the pump.
We grabbed our beer and walked out into a wild scene. A bunch of dudes smoking blunts invited us into the limo. We stepped in and met George Clinton. Yeah, the funkiest Mofo on the planet had just recorded at TreeSound Studio and was telling us about it. Summer of 2001.
We heard him tell of some funky old times and of the recording process itself. Ben was in Black Lips at the time and I was in The Applicators, Motherfuckin’ Tourettes, and Natural Disasters..and a Misfits cover band that only played on Halloween, called Ms.Fits (Julie, Mahjula, our black metal drummer, Adam, and me on vocal duties).
Ben and I walked out of that limousine in one hell of a state. We listened to Just Like Heaven by The Cure on repeat a few times in near silence. Drive back to the slaughter house and told our friends what had just happened.
Sometimes I get lost in the years, and the many houses we all occupied. We were always at each other’s houses. We had, what I would consider, way too much fun all the time. We never wanted to miss a moment, so we stayed up all night. We found each other, without internet, and often, without phones.
We would just show up and check in on each other, go to lunch together, randomly run into each other just out and about and end up spending the day together. We worked together, we lived together. We supported each other through good times and bad times, and everything in between. We built a community founded on friendship, trust, a common code of conduct, and a special love for music.
Not just punk. Not just friendship. Family. Love. Passion. Above all Camaraderie. The moments I most cherish in this lifetime are those with close friends that shared intimate moments of true friendship with, and an all encompassing passion for art & music. by @939_punk
