What exactly is 99% Pickleball?

Most pickleball coverage focuses on tournament results, rankings, and what happens at the highest levels of the game.

I mean, duh. We’ll talk about those things too... Mari is one of the hosts.

But we’re also interested in everything happening around the sport: the people, businesses, friendships, communities, stories, and conversations that make pickleball what it is.

Hosted by @marihumberg.pb and @pickleballnikki, 99% Pickleball is built for the players driving the sport forward: the 99%.

New episodes every Thursday.

There’s a lot of noise in pickleball. Tito Machado would rather focus on this part.

After moving to the U.S., Tito says he was struck by how willing people were to welcome him, learn about his culture, invite him into their communities, and yes, apparently make sure he had somewhere to go for Thanksgiving. 😂

It’s the same part of pickleball he believes deserves more attention: the person who opens the door, invites someone into open play, or teaches a newcomer the game.

Tito joins Mari Humberg and Nikki Maldonado on the Season 1 finale of @99pickleball for a conversation that goes well beyond ratings and into the community the sport is ultimately supposed to serve.

Your DUPR has one job: help you find a good game.

Most of us only get so many hours a week on the court. @duprpb CEO @titomachado.dupr says the goal of a universal rating is to make those hours count by helping players find competitive, level-based play wherever they go.

On the Season 1 finale of @99pickleball, Tito joins @marihumberg.pb and @pickleballnikki to talk about what DUPR was built to do, why players get so attached to their number, rating accuracy, sandbagging, AI, and where the system is headed next.

Some of you have a secret second DUPR account... and @titomachado.dupr knows. 👀

@duprpb CEO says they’re using tools to find duplicate profiles, merge accounts, and catch players trying to start over with a different rating.

Tito joins @marihumberg.pb and @pickleballnikki on @99pickleball this week to get into the rating questions players can’t stop debating, including sandbagging, DUPR bubbles, AI, rating accuracy, and what players may be getting wrong about their number.

🎙️ Our last episode of season one drops tomorrow.

For @thatpickleballguy, building @thatpickleballschool started with keeping the community small enough that he could personally interact with its members. Now, he’s seeing just how valuable it can be when dedicated players start learning from each other, too.

🎙️ Kyle joins @marihumberg.pb and @pickleballnikki on @99pickleball to talk about building That Pickleball Guy, pursuing pro pickleball, creating a business around the sport, and what’s next.

@thatpickleballguy says @fridaypickleball blackmailed him into becoming part of their squad. 😂

Their leverage? Well... they did get him a wife.

There is, in fact, a story behind this.

Most women’s sports have spent decades trying to catch up.

@pickleballnikki believes pickleball is different.

Because the sport is still so young, women have had the opportunity to help shape it from the beginning, not simply follow a path that already existed.

🎙️ Nikki and @marihumberg.pb dive into careers, community, and where they hope pickleball goes next on this week’s episode of @99pickleball.

Pickleball is one of the few places where the rest of the world gets put on pause.

For an hour or two, your to-do list, your stress, your inbox, and everything else waiting for you can take a back seat. It’s one of the reasons so many of us keep coming back.

In this week’s solo episode of @99pickleball, @marihumberg.pb and @pickleballnikki discuss why they hope pickleball never loses that feeling as the sport continues to grow.

Yes, pro pickleball players still play rec. Open play is another story. 😂

@marihumberg.pb breaks down what her training looks like when she’s home, from drilling and gym sessions to getting competitive games in. But when @pickleballnikki finds out Mari recently ventured into open play with her mom, she had some questions.

🎙️ Mari and Nikki are back together this week on @99pickleball to pull back the curtain on what working full-time in pickleball really looks like.

New episode drops tomorrow.
