A new 8-story banner installation titled The Hostess, designed by Seattle artist @ernestoybarra, now spans the east façade of 9th & Thomas in @southlakeunion! Commissioned by 9th & Thomas to celebrate the global game coming to Seattle this summer, The Hostess was created for soccer fans along with the Seattle community to enjoy ⚽️

Says the artist about the design, “The Hostess is described as “Sophisticated. Intelligent. Undeniable allure.” These are the qualities Ernesto uses to define both The Hostess and the city of Seattle itself. In this large-scale work, the figure is not literal, but symbolic – a metaphor for a city rich in culture, diversity, and depth. Spanning 36 x 111 feet, the piece commands attention, mirroring the energy of a city preparing to welcome the world. Rather than depicting landmarks, Ernesto captures something less tangible: presence, invitation, and magnetism. The Hostess becomes Seattle – complex, confident, and impossible to overlook.”
 Originally hand-painted in acrylic on canvas by Ernesto, The Hostess was photographed and digitized by @pandalabseattle before being scaled for the large-format banner, which was printed by @rainierind. Installed by @rhinostaging, the banner will remain on view through the end of the year. The project marks Ernesto’s second collaboration with 9th & Thomas. In fall 2025, he presented a solo exhibition titled Seattle vs Everyone in the building’s public lobby. 🔗 in bio for more.

Introducing “Jam Sessions” in The Living Room! 🎵

At 9th & Thomas, we’re all about keeping Seattle’s music scene loud, proud, and local. Think of our Living Room Lobby as SLU’s version of a garage band hangout — intimate, a little punk, and full of creative energy. If you’ve spotted the Lance Mercer music photography lining our walls, you already know we have a soft spot for the Rock N’ Roll roots of this city.

From live lobby performances to @sofarsounds concerts, plus a lobby soundtrack curated by @kexp’s own @djjohnrichards, we’re creating a home for music-lovers and musicians alike. Whether you wandered in for the playlist or showed up for a secret show, we invite you to move, mingle, and make some noise with us.

This month, we will be kicking off this live lobby music series with @djeviestokes from KEXP on January 20th from 3-5pm.

And if you’re an artist looking for a stage — The Living Room is open. Apply to perform and join us for a jam session 🎤

One week from today is HALLOWEEN PET PORTRAITS 🐕 🎃 On Tues, 10/13 from 11am - 2pm, dress up your furry friend and join us at 9th & Thomas for our annual Halloween Pet Portraits benefiting @paws_wa animal rescue! Photos taken by @earsandnoses (first come, first served).

A $25+ donation (matched by 9T up to $1K) gets you a festive pet portrait (digital photos to be shared by 10/24), a free coffee from @evokecafebar, and free dog treats from @theseattlebarkery.
