Two years ago today. You came into this world and somehow changed mine completely. I don’t think I will ever be able to fully explain what you have done to my heart or how different life feels because you are in it. Before you I knew what it meant to love someone. But loving you has been a completely different kind of love. It is protective. Overwhelming. Pure. And unconditional in a way I never knew I was capable of feeling. You are only two years old. And somehow you have already taught me so much about life. You have taught me to slow down. To appreciate the smallest moments. To laugh harder. To love deeper. And to realize how precious time really is. Watching you grow has been one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking things at the same time. Because I am so proud of every new thing you learn. But a part of me wishes I could keep you this little forever.
I still look at you sometimes and cannot believe I get to call you my baby sister. I cannot believe that I get to be one of the people who watches you grow up. Holds your hand through life. Celebrates you. Protects you. And loves you through every version of yourself. Being your older sister is one of the greatest gifts God has ever given me. And I will thank Him for you for the rest of my life.
TYJ for allowing me to be the older sister of such an amazing soul and the sweetest little human. Out of all the people in this world. Somehow I was lucky enough to get you. I hope one day when you are older. You understand just how much you have always meant to me. I hope you know that from the moment you came into my life. You became a piece of my heart that will forever live outside of me.
I wish I could protect you from every heartbreak. Every bad day. Every person who ever makes you question how special you are. I wish I could promise that life will always be gentle with you. I can’t. But I can promise that no matter how old you get. You will never have to go through any of it alone. I will always be your safe place. Your biggest supporter. The person you can call at any hour. And the sister who will stand beside you through absolutely anything.
