A collaboration between @ivan.muela and @natphilipps
Debut album out now on Unheard of Hope

POSTS STORIES REELS

Our debut album ’Sympathetic Resonance’ is out today!

We met for the first time three years ago, with no other purpose than spending a couple of hours improvising in Iván’s home studio. What started as an afternoon experimenting with our instruments turned into a musical connection we kept going back to. We spent months improvising, recording, editing, deconstructing and rearranging this music. This album is a document of this journey and the friendship born alongside it. Seeing this turned into an album feels like a very emotional moment and we’re very excited to finally share this music with you.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed along the way. @lucci________ for his brilliant work mixing this record. @blackknoll for mastering. @hopeunheard for releasing it. @toe.to.the.bee @yrlovelydeadmoon @ginajatkinson for creating the visual work around it. @noemiereijnen for the portraits.

Album available on vinyl and streaming platforms.

We’re celebrating this at @sjq_dalston in London on 14th May.

The final chapter of Season 4.0.

I am delighted to announce the final SY.Gigs event of the year.

On Sunday 29 November, we return to The Unitarian Church, our spiritual home and the place where the SY.Gigs journey first began.

We'll be welcoming Momen, the London-based duo of Iván Muela and Nat Philipps, whose beautiful blend of piano, saxophone and electronics creates music that rewards stillness, curiosity and deep listening.

Joining them is rhubiqs, the solo project of composer and sound designer Tom Squires, whose immersive electronic soundscapes provide the perfect opening to the evening.

It feels fitting that we close Music for the Curious where it all began – in the space that first inspired us to imagine what listening together could be.

And perhaps... this is the final SY.Gigs? Who knows 🤔

My inner demons are still debating with the quieter voices of hope and reason. Over the coming months, I'll decide whether there's another season waiting in 2027.

For now, I'd simply love for us to gather one last time, share a beautiful evening together, and celebrate everything this community has become.

Here's is a short clip of ‘By The Grace of Earth’ performed at our album launch last week. This was a very special evening, and we have so much love to all of you that were there to share it with us. It felt especially poignant to be performing the album at @sjq_dalston , where the project was born and much of the album was recorded.

Our next gig is on 6th June supporting @patriciawolf_music at The Old Church in Stoke Newington.

This Thursday - our next 10a Session - we have rare treat in store - we will be celebrating @___.momen album launch of ‘Sympathetic Resonance’. This is a really beautiful album and the fruit of a collaboration between @ivan.muela & @natphilipps, some of which was explored within the SJQ walls. Check it out.

As some of you may recognise - @ivan.muela our incredible house sound engineer is stepping out from behind the control panel and onto the stage.

We are also really happy to welcome back @canty_was_here on support.

‘Flights’, the second single from our upcoming album, is out today. This track is a long-form composition that goes through prolonged darkness and dissonance to resolve itself into peaceful stillness. The topographies and climates it explores reflect the contrasts of the album more broadly. It is available to listen and purchase everywhere, the link is in our bio.

The full album is out on 8th May and we look forward to performing this piece, along with others from the album, on the 14th May at @sjq_dalston

Special thanks to @lucci________ for the beautiful mix he did of this track and the album.

SUPPORT ANNOUNCEMENT 📣

Momen and Patel Doronin will be supporting Patricia Wolf at

📍The Old Church, Stoke Newington
🗓️ 6th June 2026

Momen - Momen is the London-based duo of Iván Muela (piano/guitar/electronics) and Nat Philipps (saxophone/electronics), who balance poise and catharsis throughout the eight movements of their début album, Sympathetic Resonance. Equally inspired by Bach, Sakamoto, and time spent in post-punk bands, their world of jazz-influenced experimentation and spacious ambient textures thrives on the subtle transformations embedded within apparent stillness.

Pavel Doronin - Pavel Doronin, a UK-based musician, has been active since the mid-’90s. After years of releasing music and performing live under various monikers, he now records under his own name — a deliberate reset that marks a new chapter focused on introspective ambient soundscapes. Built from minimalist motifs, field recordings and time-bending textures, his work unfolds like a slow-burn inner monologue: quiet detail, emotional weight, and space to think.
