It's not easy to get yourself out of your panic state and put yourself in normalcy pretty fast. It takes a bit of time to realize you no longer need to carry the sense of fear day and night. Ending your exams one day and going for a trip in the next few days surely doesn't make you calm in a second. You'd still have nightmares of dainty yellow eyes and hepatosplenomegaly at night.

I'd have to give it to the way Meghalaya slowly entered into our minds and disconnected us from our realities. We had carried the aftermath of our lives into the first day, but luckily, as the second day approached after a good night's sleep, all of us slowly started healing.

Paaru, with her prompt choice of joy to our ears (with a touch of DC playlist every now and then), made each and every minute of our journey inexplicable. Malu tried to let go of being the mom of the group, and I'd say she did at times. She was the cool kid she always had within.

Gayu had endless reel ideas in her mind but had to meddle between enjoying the moment and creating reels to keep for the future. She succeeded in both. Nandu had let go of a lot of her fears and is returning home with a proud mind, obviously. Pillai, though she had her struggles, had an absolute ability to switch off to sleep every moment she got in the bus. As for both Surya and me, it was difficult to comprehend how well people without glasses lived, and we suffered.

I clearly remember saying to a guide that he could add random sounds that end with an 'u' sound when he asked what our names were. Just like the similarity we had in our names, amidst all our differences, we all had been living in the constant sense of fear for the past few months, which Meghalaya has slowly taken away from our minds.

Couldn't end without mentioning our coordinator, North East Mallu, who gave us hope that ultimately, it all works out. He also tried to make us optimistic and have an open heart for our peers, at which I think he failed.

As for me, this experience makes me happy and sad at the same time—a very different feeling to comprehend—and yes, forever grateful for all of this. by @_____farza__
