POSTS STORIES REELS

SPECTRE is an art show that invites *everyone* and their curiousities with an open mind and kindness. This is a space where we explore the pendulum of our current climate in community. Without uncovering the pervasive darkness and coming to an understanding of where its motivations are rooted, we cannot get through it to see that there is indeed a reality full of hope and overall a kinder, bountiful world that is possible on the other side.

This group exhibit captures the paranoia, fear, and despair of the current political climate, drawing a line through various globe-spanning conspiracies to illuminate the rot at the core of our ruling class. By telling the story of revolutionary groups historically targeted by these conspiracies, we will offer beacons of hope and guidance on how to bring down the oppressive system we live under.

Join us on opening night in a space swaying between despair and hope with live music, liquid inebriation and zany kind-hearted company on:

📆 Friday, October 2nd - 6:30-Midnight
🖼️ @superchiefgallery
🍻 Bar and refreshments available
🥙 Free food provided by our friends @foodnotbombsdtla - thank you for your generous heart and efforts that you pour into the community

❤️‍🔥 In addition to the exhibit, avenues of fundraising for causes will also be present as well as educational takeaways.

Art, prints, and other creations will be on sale!

Last but not least, we have a tin hat making station to protect us from surveillance.

Hope to see familiar and new faces on opening night or the weekend gallery open hours!

the number of times where I have worked in the food industry and seen perfectly consumable leftovers, or had the privilege of having a surplus of pantry items or fresh produce being slam dunked into the trash due time sensitive situations (but ideally compost instead as the worst case scenario, and that’s another tangent for another day) surely exceeds the number of problems that jay-z has. as a refresher, it’s supposedly 99.

@lacommunityfridges was an organization I stumbled upon while spending too much time scrolling on the phone when I first moved to LA, and goodness, am i glad i did. it’s painful to see statistics that report numerous populations in the states that are malnourished yet there is excess, perfectly tasty meals that are not accessible to underserved communities. it’s ass backwards and frankly a downright shame. i am forever grateful for the mutual aid and love that the lacommunityfridges team (everyone that’s involved!) puts into keeping this grassroots effort going, and honored to give one of their fridges some TLC.

everyone deserves a space that they feel safe in - warmer when there’s joy and color sprinkled into the environment, even if it’s “just a fridge”.

a humongous thank you to:
- the neighbors of the east hollywood 💕
- @allpowerbooks for the paint (from the mural!) 🎨
- @ap.gq.art, my bestie, the brainstorming and reliving AP renovation on a smaller scale lol 🖼️
- @terrificsigns for your friendship and bringing back the art of sign painting, lending your talents and time 🖌️
- loved ones who supported through and through 🥰
- and last but not least, @lacommunityfridges and @easthollywoodfridge for having us help out! keep it up!

@ap.gq.art , @terrificsigns and myself are always looking for opportunities to help out organizations through unifying art and community! thank you again for all that you do. 💕

if fridge things are not up your alley, please consider donating to Mutual Aid Disaster Relief @mutualaiddisasterrelief to lend a hand out to victims of the environmental crisis we are experiencing. Thanks again.

@allpowerbooks mural time lapse of spread over a course of little less than shy of a month! Working through some hot, steamy mornings, afternoons to sunsets downing a combination of gourmet coffee and bud light (the closest to four loko) with the helpful, loving presence (and hands and vertical reach lol) of @sassquachh , @ap.gq.art and @shithammer . It’s been a dream come true to have the opportunity to contribute art to the community. As I type this out, I’m amazed how quickly this came together, and I couldn’t have accomplished creating this without everyone’s collective efforts, guidance and encouragement. I hope this mural sparks joy, inspiration, hope and the hidden softness that is within empowerment to those who enter Jiji’s archway.

Brain is still mushy from the expended energy over the past weeks - heart always is mushy pretty much all the time. a few details that make me feel nostalgic: the sacred green handled brush, “your hair is everywhere, screaming infidelities”, dusty knees and ass, caulk and paint on even more unexpected areas of the body (wow, showering has been interesting), neighbors popping in to say hello and cheer us on, liquids, soooo many liquids, our music and laughter echoing up to the high ceilings, expressing our care to get us through the day, and do we want to remember this?: “sooooo cute- where did you find them?”

37x around my favorite volatile heat ball suspended in the middle of the galaxy is a trip. my 14 year old self (pictured with loose socks) couldn’t fathom late 30s. she was hormonal, emo, engrossed in internet culture, expressed a gross sense of humor, had severe music snobbery, through DDR discovered breakdancing, a defiant pain in the ass towards her parents, and dreamed of trying to save the goodness of the earth through art and story telling by bootleg Adobe and drawing late into the night. all has remained quite the same except breakdancing only appears under severe inebriation.

Sifting through pictures on the dopamine rectangle in the past year, attempting to narrow down a tumultuous year captured in 20 photos. after a couple hours of thumb strain in tandem with my heart aching for the friends, loved ones and dog(s, animals) that are globally spread, i decided that each theme identified deserved its own focused space and time. Along the same vein, i intentionally refrained from posting as these moments occurred because i felt the need to also be present with the space and time of what is “now”.

As that moment passes, these photos all are destined to become the past, as we all will be too. Evidence of a feeling and a piece of history that disappear after consumed with a tap. Reflecting on those who we have lost on from celebrities, neighbors, and strangers who become have only become more familiar to us through their death coupled with each year i feel the pangs of aging, I swirl in a pool mixed with the choices I have made in the past and the hope that the majority of these decisions will leave a mark positively in the future. I hope that we collectively strive to be remembered for kindness to one another including the living beings we cohabitate the globe with, that we attempted to preserve the natural beauty around us instead of it simply becoming a distant memory of a millions of pixels shattered in an instant.

that being said, I am so grateful to have been able to spend this time on earth with all of you another year, with hope. On internet land, and especially in person. thank you all for the birthday wishes 💕 I hope we cross paths again soon! by @___keychan

At first I thought about painting a swallow, for what it has symbolized in some cultures. The coo-coos and the hyena like soft clucking of the pigeons were my soundtrack while painting this fridge. Humans domesticated an abundance of pigeons, staying near our side in a multitude of urban spaces for decades. Nowadays, most would treat them as a public nuisance. Being shat on is no rainbow, however I thought to myself a bit cynically about how this is an additional disappointment I had in the human race. Sometimes I have heard people call them rats with wings. Even if it was a rat with wings, can’t any winged creature be a symbol of freedom as these appendages can carry them everywhere? So instead, I honored the pigeon - our feathered brethren breaking the chains we have sadly imposed on each other physically, spiritually, mentally.

A grassroots organization hailing from the East Bay, Critical Resistance centers around abolishing the industrial prison complex. Since 1997, Critical Resistance provides itself as a political education resource all the while thwarting policing, breaking down imprisonment and sharing solidarity with those behind bars. Since then, Critical Resistance has established themselves as a presence in New York, Portland, Los Angeles and Central Appalachian. In addition to the humanizing efforts Critical Resistance has put forth in this dumpster fire of what is supposedly deemed as a united nation, the Oakland chapter has volunteered themselves as a host to a #communityfridge . Basking under the sun (but of course staying cool) on the corner of 44th and Telegraph is where the fridge resides, welcoming anyone to premade meals, produce, groceries and pantry items. Thanks @criticalresistance and @alexplainslowly for the collaboration in giving some creative love to the fridge!

Next fridge is currently in progress. 🕊️💕

barely scratching the surface on the exuberant amount of art in Oaxaca. felt lucky to have crossed paths in person with some amazing woodblock printing artists! 🙏🏼 the diversity of mediums, vibrance and attention to detail left me inspired, and I wish for the remaining tingles i feel looking back on these photos to blow away the eve before returning to the continuation of slaving away to capitalism. I look forward to the day I can devote more of myself to celebrating creation day in and out and wish that for others in whatever form that is fulfilling in community. It was stunning to see this played out only shy over a week in Oaxaca. Can’t wait to return again! by @___keychan

Bird facts: the bird in the center is the tocororo, national bird of 🇨🇺 and the two on the top are blue-throated warblers that migrate between southeast 🇺🇸 and 🇨🇺. both names are also fantastic verbs.

Illustration collaboration with some of my favorite healthcare professionals with the biggest hearts @apfreeclinic ! Help and support where you can. A little goes a long way.

Due to the intensifying U.S. embargo on Cuba, APFC is partnering with a delegation of comrades to materially support the Cuban people and show our solidarity with their anti-imperialist struggle! 🇨🇺

We are accepting over-the-counter meds and supplies listed in this wishlist, which reflects the specific items requested by the Cuban organizers coordinating the delegation. 🩺

Please bring any donations to All Power Books in West Adams from 4/16-4/24 during shop hours. Any money donated to our Venmo with the “⛑️” emoji in the description will also be used to purchase supplies for the Cuba delegation.

⭐️ Please make sure to mark down whatever donation you make on the wishlist so we can keep track of everything!
