I make music because it’s something I truly love, not because I’m chasing fame or money. Every song means something to me and it’s something I can’t just say or do so I show you like this. I can’t really put two and two together right now and that’s why I refrained from posting because it would make this more real than I’d like it to be. However, seeing everyone share their lovely stories, charming perspectives and heartfelt tributes to Derrick, I too wish to share mine.

Derrick, Dwrek, Dmoney, Dheart, my “prom date” the space you took up on this planet already has a giant void and feels emptier than ever. Two years ago I had a case of sepsis and was in and out of the hospital, had lost 40lbs, and had really had no idea what would come. Although not many knew, from the ones that did, the only one that ever checked up on me with frequency when I was in that state was you. Knowing now I won’t be getting a message from you, an obscurely loud voice memo, a video of you bumping my music, a reaction on an Instagram post, or a random call just doesn’t make any sense in my head. I swear to you, my birthday this year will ALWAYS and FOREVER be my favorite because I’ll remember you spending the entire day with me until your gigantic claves couldn’t hold you up anymore in those long ass lines. My biggest supporter even when I didn’t believe in myself; you knew what to tell me to stop being an “emo bit*h”. You owe me a brunch date and an LA Kings outing. I can’t wait for that day.
