Asmaa took notes for 8 hours in the car on Hwy 1.

Okay maybe that’s an exaggeration.

I used to go on trips hoping to “find myself” in some type of way - whatever that means.

A transformational turn, a major plot twist, a main character moment.

I realized it’s almost superficial.

Now, I travel for the sole purpose of experience.

The food, the late night walks, the unfamiliar smell of local alleyways, the random encounters, the strangers who become friends for a day.

And that’s it.

I learned to lift the quiet pressure of having to return as a different, enlightened person from a trip.

Sometimes, you just gotta let the wind take you wherever it wants. And that is enough.

One weekend crossing from #rasalkhaimah to #fujairah, United Arab Emirates.

Started in Ras Al Khaimah, ended in Fujairah on foot through the Hajar Mountains most people driving between the two emirates will never notice exist.

This is one of @eccadventuresuae UAE expeditions and it’s proof that this country has a whole other side once you step off the highway. Jagged ridgelines, empty wadis, and a kind of quiet you don’t expect to find an hour from the city.

If you think you’ve “done” the UAE, this trail says otherwise.
