No longer using this app. Working on putting a stop to my own involvement in supporting companies, extractive pipelines and individuals that harm us, our environment, and the social and creative ecosystems we’ve built.

It certainly is a complex web we’ve gotten caught up in, but we have to start untangling it from somewhere. And it is going to require sacrifice on an individual level en masse. Sorry!

More to say on everything. From now on I’d encourage you to keep in touch with me through my bandcamp or substack, or to connect with me directly via text, email or letters. I’d love some good old fashioned pen pals!

hi you little ergonomically designed travel pillows
my two best friends and i (willy) are playing our songs at the coziest of all possible bars this coming saturday. dream of brighter days, hold one another for warmth, have half a dozen tiny glasses of your new favorite beers, etc.

A deep, dark year buoyed by many small, flickering moments of light.

Bought a house 🏡 Graduated from my MBA program at RPI Lally👩‍🎓 Started piano lessons 🎹 TM’d some incredible shows 🪩 Many nature walks 🌲 and shared meals 🕯️ and cups of coffee ☕️

All wrought with mental, emotional, physical and financial challenges. Surgery, renovations, identity loss and grief and lots of therapy. It feels good to be rid of it all in some small, symbolic way.

Heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to the trail of loving breadcrumbs that got me through.

2 song set on bandcamp for your spooky autumnal listening consideration

You might not know that I am a songwriter because I have not shared any music since before the pandemic, but I have been making songs since before I could actually write! It’s one of the only things in my experience of life that I genuinely care about.

A lot of people have helped me learn to record over the years since my beginnings on a digital tascam 4-track. I am forever grateful! This skill is my most precious possession, no matter how rudimentary!

‘Topographics’ is a title I’ve used to conceptualize my own multimedia artistic output since college. Influenced in large part by the 1975 photographic exhibition “New Topographics”, and turning their approach to external landscapes inward.

I hate editing! I like to record in full passes and leave the click of the space bar at the start and end of my tracks, along with various mumbles about parts I fumbled, mimicking that original 4-track quality.

All this to say, I’d like to share my songs again; and also to say, do what you love and help your friends do what they love, too. That is how we meet each other and how we meet ourselves.

And the world needs every drop of it that remains true and un-commodified and for its own sake! by @__allysonsmith

The summer I turned 20 I went on a 10 week road trip across the country and back by myself in a car I’d bought for $500 when I was 17.

I had been dealing with depression and other mental health issues since high school and this was my way of thrashing against the pressures and pains of life at that point.

Along the way I learned that I could make anything happen if I could plan it out and adapt as needed, and also that if I felt afraid of something I had to do it or else I would be limited by that fear (i.e.: hiking the grand canyon on a whim, moving to a cabin in the woods alone, skydiving…).

This set the tone for my 20s and the rest makes sense in hindsight; At every chance I got, I opted for the interesting and unconventional route.

I am now the happiest I have ever been or could’ve ever imagined being, I know myself better than ever, and I am filled to the brim with the most beautiful experiences, stories and memories.

Sending out the biggest and most heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been a part of my life and my growth.

To all of my loving friends, family, and to my incredible partner Willoughby. My life is truly a dream come true because of all of you.

Special shout out to the Vipassana Meditation Center in Shelburne Falls, MA and @vipassanaorg for having an unbelievably positive and profound impact on me and on my life as a result. Of all things, I am most grateful that I found this practice so early in my life.

I am looking so happily forward to this new decade, to continuing to meet myself, and to explore where it all flows.
