Girl’s trip to Birmingham to see Mumford & Sons so naturally we made time to find an indie bookstore. I happened to see a story on @jamiebgolden page talking about @thankyou_bham

Y’all. This was the CUTEST y with the NICEST people working there. They were beyond helpful. I bought a gift for the kid’s upcoming birthday and a sweatshirt.

I will definitely go back if I’m ever in town again. taken in Thank You Books by @__booked.solid

I was boarding a plane last summer heading home from a beach vacation when I started the Kindred’s Curse Saga by Penn Cole.
I tore through the first book and immediately went into book 2. Then 3.
I read the entire series within one week and then I couldn’t shut up about it.

I have been waiting for this ever since I closed that last book.

Of all the releases this fall— this is the one I’ve been most excited about.

I’ve cleared my schedule and plan on digging in.
Part of me wants to binge and find out how the story ends. The other part? Wants to take it slow and savor it.
As a reader- do you have a preference? Do you take your time? Do you just tear through a book because you just can’t wait?

I’m more than likely going to read until the words are blurry because I have the patience of a gnat.

PS.. if thicc physical copies aren’t your thing, it’s also on KU.

A retelling of the Cinderella fairy tale from the POV of the stepmother.
My book club read last month and it was an unanimous hit with all of us.

We all know the Disney story.. and I think most of us know the Grimm Brothers’ version.. I was curious how this author was going to take something we have heard our whole lives and make it new and interesting.

There is no meddling mice or magic birds. A fairy godmother doesn’t appear and turn a pumpkin into a carriage. We see hints and nods, but all in all— this is a view as if the stepmother is not evil. The stepsisters are not wicked. Everyone is just a product of their environment and limited means to support themselves.

For an author’s first novel, I was very impressed. The story did what it set out to do. It entertained and made me think.

August was a pretty decent month for books..

They were all good reads. My only caveat is that, Someone Worth Killing, is a good bad book.. if you know what I mean. It doesn’t pretend to be overly complicated or complex and it definitely delivers on that, but it held my interest for the whole thing.

the rest were all at least 4 stars. A full review is on the way, pinky promise.

Now that we’re getting into the ā€˜Ber months, I need this stifling heat to GO AWAY. I’m ready for hoodies and fire-pits and not sweating as soon as I walk outside. by @__booked.solid

Went to Marshall’s recently and found the cutest book theme coffee mugs. It was a real struggle not to buy them all.
They also had the prettiest edition of Frankenstein I’ve ever seen. Those gold edges would be beautiful on a bookcase.

Sybil is a diviner who drowns in a magic well and see visions of the 6 Omens predicting the future She lives within the confines of the cathedral. No one knows her name. Her only companions are the other diviners and a rogue gargoyle. Then one day the new king comes to visit to have his future read and everything changes.. for everyone.
I went in blind without knowing anything about the book other than seeing it EVERYWHERE. I was just expecting another ordinary fantasy with maybe a little spice.

I got way more than I bargained for. From the sassy gargoyle to the found family.. I even may have a new favorite book boyfriend.
The twist at the end left on a giant cliffhanger that has me beyond excited for the sequel coming next month.

I have always loved sending and receiving mail— cards, letters, gifts. Any sort of little piece of communication that shows up as a little surprise. I remember as a kid going to pick out special stationary that I could use to write letters to my friends when I was out of town over the summer. And sending a thank you note for a gift was always a must. It was just good manners. My very Southern grandmother expected nothing less.

Maybe that’s why Sybil in this book caught my attention and felt like someone I already knew. Every bit of information we learn is from the letters sent and received over the lifetime of a 70 year old woman.
She makes time to sit and write letters to everyone in her life— including authors of books she’s read.
We go through her childhood, marriage, raising children and all the way through old age. We watch her mourn, experience loss and also love.

I laughed.. I cried. I read this is almost one sitting. Once I started, I simply could not put it down.

I’ve had these on my TBR for quite awhile. There are so many new releases coming out this fall, but I’m determined to make an effort to clear some out that I already own before buying more.

Wish me luck.

Rating:: āļøāļøāļøāļø

Review:: a love triangle that is both beautiful and tragic without being cheesy. Humans can make a big mess things, can’t they?
I binged this in almost one sitting.. set in the 1960s in rural England. I loved every character and cried through most of the book. I know not everyone loved it, but I certainly did. by @__booked.solid

I definitely didn’t need a new coffee mug, but how could I say no? It’s a proven fact that morning caffeine is more potent if your mug is cute. There are studies— I’m sure of it.

This weekend was so good, but so full. Parties, concerts, birthdays.. I got to see all of my babies PLUS the grandbabies.
It was a good 3 days, but now I need a nap. Plus a trip to the grocery store. Where did all of the food go?

I’d like to think I can get back into a routine, but summer busy season is just beginning. by @__booked.solid

April Books::

Had a pretty good reading month. Finding a series I could dive into really helped.

My least favorite of the month was. Sight Unseen. It was fine, but I was confused through most of it and felt like I was missing backstory. I never felt a connection to any of the characters.

Trevor Noah is hilarious and is quite the storyteller. I’m so glad his life took the path that it did so he could share it with us. On the flip side- I had no idea about any of the history of apartheid Africa. Which- isn’t really shocking considering I only got a white washed version of history in school. I wasn’t even taught a fully formed version of our history much less a foreign country.

Now I need to sit down and figure out what books I’m reading in May. Do you have a planed TBR? Any suggestions?
