I started shooting film because I thought it was cool and I always had an appreciation for old things. Carrying my first Canon a-1 made me feel happy both in the way it looked and in its weight and feel. However, what hooked me wasn’t that. It started to change my entire shooting experience. I started going on strolls, and lifting it up when I saw something I found beautiful. Not being able to go back to my camera after 5 quick consecutive shots of the same thing to see which one was the best and what to adjust for the following 5, gave me a really pleasant feeling and allowed me to start walking, seeing and enjoying, more than shooting. The turning point was the finding of the Nikonos, which allowed me to now swim, see and enjoy, more than shoot. Now I move along the line up and I observe and learn about people, surf and the ocean. I stroll left and right through them and I blend into it and for brief moments I feel part of the line up. That’s one of the moment I enjoy the most, when I feel I understand what is happening out there. But I am not.

This photo was taken in one of those strolls. When I saw them I sprinted through the surfers to get closer and catch their beautiful orange robes in the wind. The monks were giving us and unusual sight and they knew it. When they finally turned around and left everyone looked at me like “you got it, right?”. I was stoked. It was a beautiful sight and I had it in my camera, what else I could have asked for? When I got back my film from @thedarkroomlab I realized I could have asked for freaking color film!! I was quite bummed. I didn’t know I had b&w film on -yes, not even when I took it out of the camera- and basically thought I had lost my chance of a really great photo. For the past few days I had been looking at them and even though I liked them I had this aftertaste that was taking out so much from it. Now is clearer to me that this is what I find beautiful about film photography. Its surprises and joys and also its aftertastes. And specially the fact that I can’t help to keep going out..

There are several reasons to think that the closest I will ever get to Nirvana is by watching their MTV Unplugged. One of the main ones probably is how attached I am to certain objects.. I wouldn’t recommend this tent to none I care at least a little about - but even tho I stick to it and love it. Sweet photo before the first time she (the tent) performed decently by withstanding a pretty high winds desert storm. Was fun. Got soaked.
