🎤 Sharing 3 random learnings from my TEDx experience with you (FOR FREE):

💬 #1: Sure, you want to provide value to your audience. But even more important: Include inspiring quotes that others can easily share afterward. Imagine an event after-post with your face and a bold quote next to it. Starbucks fans might have an eye for Instagramability - you have an eye for quotability.

-> Think of TED's slogan: "Ideas worth spreading".

✨ #2: TED speakers usually are domain experts or thought leaders. If you're neither, explain at least one complex concept that almost no one understands. It doesn't even have to be related to your topic. I baked (pun intended) the second law of thermodynamics and entropy into my talk about curiosity.

-> It makes you seem much smarter and underpins your entitlement as a speaker.

😤 #3: The speaker coach will tell you to finish your script 2 weeks before the event, so you can rehearse and focus on your delivery (body language, intonation, etc.). But if you finish your script just on the event day (like I did), there's neither rehearsing nor focus on delivery.

-> I recommend listening to your speaker coach.

That said, I'm taking a step back from B2B software and switching to the consumer space.
In a world where SaaS solutions cater to that one guy in a corner office who needs a hyper-specialized widget optimizer, I've opted for an almost as innovative route: Making products for humans who eat, drink and poo, you know?

I call that first-principle thinking. 🤡

Why target the needle in a haystack when there's an entire haystack waiting for me? 🤔

Time to say goodbye. 👋

After 2.5 years of being married to Y42, going through honeymoons and facing harsh truths, it's time to leave one part of my identity behind.

We went from <10 people in the Berlin office to 150 globally and back down to <100.
Y42 held the highest density of smart and ambitious people I've ever worked with. Interviewing people much more experienced and qualified made me feel like an imposter for the very first time.

It's hard to rank my top learnings, so I'll share 3 random secrets with you instead (FOR FREE):

🦸‍♂️ 1) Have you ever really worked in an early-stage startup if you never sent emails and LinkedIn messages from your CEO's accounts?
Now imagine you get a reply from another "CEO" but that was also just someone else managing their inbox. Think of Spider-Men pointing at each other.

🍆 2) Have you ever thought of running ads on p*rn sites?
They're incredibly cheap. However, visitors aren't quite receptive, so don't wonder about low click-through rates.

😤 3) In outbound, objection handling is paramount to success.
Being persistent surely helps. But if your prospect tells you they're getting laid off, don't try to handle that objection and let them f*cking go!

PS: The first pic was taken at our 2021 Christmas Party after I received the Y42 award for "The Funniest". Perhaps my most meaningful one to date.

I interviewed at Germany's probably most renowned VC early this year.

I failed.

Yep, I was kinda sad.

Then I felt the urge to keep learning more on the operational side. Thanks to Monika, I got introduced to this unknown data analytics venture with some pretty smart people and a sh*t ton of work.

Thanks to Hai and Ba Khai vision selling, I actually joined this unknown venture that is now called Y42.

Today, it feels rewarding to watch how the seeds show first fruits: With our Series A round of $31M, led by Atomico and Insight Partners, we just became one of Europe's most valuable Series A-stage software startups of all time. And we'll grow from 15 to 80 teamies in 2021 alone.
