@remeywilliams when i said i was weeping, i was not joking lol.

many incoherent thoughts of gratitude… lots of tears, forgive me for crying on the internet lol TLS is in a week and it feels like a miracle to have made it here… because it is. i started saying that it feels wild to be like “people are finally starting to get it” when over 1000 people have witnessed the show so far…. but this year feels different and that’s due in large part to the love, enthusiasm and genuine support of the people working with me to turn this into a reality. idk who all coming, but if i were you, i’d do my best to be in the number because it’s gonna be a fantastic show. by @__itsbrit__

i can’t believe there was any point where i didn’t know @mikaela__renee could sing.

i met her as a soft voiced, big haired freshman in the Spelman College Glee Club during my junior year. i don’t know when or how we got close, but i’m so grateful that we did. Mikaela is a hilarious, truly unserious person with a heart of gold and the face card/fashion sense of a vogue model. she also the first artist i had the honor of managing and one of my favorite singer/songwriters of all time.

truthfully, Mikaela is a big part of why i even wanted to start 2oh1 Studios. as a working musician and burgeoning executive straight out of college, i had plenty to learn. but i knew enough about what labels actually did, what they were looking for and who ultimately made the decisions. i also knew about the many ways you could leverage musical knowledge and talent to actually be able to sustain yourself, with or without a record deal. when Mikaela decided she wanted to be an artist full-time, i knew i wanted to create a space for her (and artists like her) to be able to develop their craft, connect meaningfully with peers they knew but never thought to work with, and get paid for doing what they love, without compromising on quality or values. and so i started 2oh1 Studios and the rest is history. i guess you could say i loved her to the point of invention lol. you could also say that Mikaela inspired me to step fully into my purpose.

@mikaela__renee i love you so much, girl. thank you for believing in me. thank you for singing in my recitals, thank you for walking alongside me during one of the hardest times of my life…. thank you for seeing me… thank you for trusting me… and most of all, THANK YOU for finally putting that music out and sharing your voice with the world. we’re all better for it.

@say.saquante this one’s for you❤️

i met Saquante during my freshman year at Spelman and he immediately became one of my favorite people on earth. anyone who’s met him will tell you that his spirit is so pure… he’s hilarious, passionate, and unbelievably talented. the definition of a true friend… i don’t think i’ve seen anyone go harder for their folks. witnessing Saquante’s love in action inspires me to show up better for my people, and also reminds me to care for self. i owe so much to this incredible human, not the least of which is my music catalog (Saquante put me on to so many of my favorite artists, like @yebbasmith @samohtmusic and @jailenjosey).

Saquante, thank you for your light! thank you for the physical and spiritual food, the fellowship and the friendship. thank you for loving me out loud. and last but not least, thank you for giving the people A SHOW last year as our host.

this time around i’ma give it everything, or whatever @jailenjosey said.

this post is dedicated to my roll dawg and our official DJ @yeahitsola ❤️ we’ve been hitting the ground hard, introducing our lineup and telling the story of TLS. in a word, it’s been surreal! and it feels divinely ordered. my sophomore year of college, i auditioned for a show called Art After Dark. had no idea that audition would lead to me meeting the person I’d be co-conspiring with to change the landscape of R&B in Atlanta and beyond.

Ola, thank you! for making great music without apology or compromise… for daring to try things out in front of the world. thank you for your belief in me and my wild schemes, for your enthusiastic support, your listening ear and your grounding advice when my head is too far in the clouds. thank you for holding me accountable, and for showing up even when you have your family and a million other things to tend to. Thank you for saying “yes” and meaning it. you’ve been on this ride with me since the beginning and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

TLS season is upon us once more✨ i’m gonna spend the next 31 days doing everything i can to get some butts in them seats… posting, texting, emailing, calling, YELLING… and sending all my love to the folks working to make it happen, starting with MYSELF. I’ve been calling myself unemployed all year long (which is true), but Julian recently offered me a beautiful reframing. “you may not have an employer, but you most certainly have a job… TLS is your job, 2oh1 is your job, building up the next generation of musicians is your job” and you know what… they’re absolutely right. This year is showing me that i’m exactly where i’m supposed to be, doing exactly what i’m supposed to be doing. i know it because by all accounts, this all should have been impossible. hell came, water rose, weapons were formed and we still here…making it happen. i thank God for (pro)vision, i thank y’all for the unwavering support, and i thank ME… for doing it scared, doing it tired, doing it imperfectly, but doing it anyway. i gotta believe good is gonna be on the other side. get your tickets to the show, it’s gonna be one for the books! #tls26 #thelovescene #2oh1studios #tlsloveletters by @__itsbrit__

if God don’t give me another thing, i’m still so grateful for the gift that is The Love Scene. so grateful to @crysincandid for capturing the pure joy of this night.. up till now, i couldn’t feel it or find it underneath the hell that was this year. still can’t believe it happened fr… but we did it and it was damn good. every person on that stage and behind the scenes made it happen and even if it never happens again… i’ll spend the rest of my life in gratitude.
