Addiction is a strange experience. It’s felt like one of the defining experiences of my life. It’s been there as long as I can remember.

Alcohol sort of infiltrated and infected everything for a really long time. It’s kind of weird to reach this milestone two weeks before I turn 30, it just shows how inextricably alcohol and my 20s will always be linked.

I think sometimes things are just too enormous to actually comprehend in one go. All the memories, regrets, mistakes and also all the fun and the experiences you cherish because stuff like this is never actually truly binary.

I process all of the thoughts and the feelings little by little. I accept the things I cannot change as they say. I’m grateful for all the people that ever were there, even for a bit.

I suppose I’m thankful to survive, to experience grace, to grow out of and beyond what needs to be let go. I’m thankful for my small community of people who understand me and love me and I love them, and to find and protect my own little slice of peace.

I miss the chaos but I love the stillness.
