“it’s been a minute…no i’m not dead”

is what my dear momma suggested when i asked her thoughts on a caption for my return to this weird and sometimes beautiful space

but how funny mom is

i don’t equate bein on ig with bein alive

to the contrary

despite being away
there’s been
SO much living
and enjoyment of time

time to process
heartbreak, loss

time to strengthen / invite
joy, faith

i came to remember
despite how hard this life thing is,
i love me some livin

and if i can remember it’s all a journey
and the livin is in how you do the now
i can somehow keep #stayinlovestruck

it’s amazing how things and people
can come together in ways
you never imagined,
but are deeply grateful for

i love playing
i love singing and playing live
with this incredible group of musicians who allow me the space / freedom
to fail explore and soar

@mrlguitar keeps us jazzy
@tommi_truthz keeps us swinging’
And @trevorsbrownmusic keeps us steady

all the while dealing with my bad dad jokes as i clumsily float breathe and aim to be
as present playful and generous as possible

remind me of turkey sandwiches and TRL
walking past plastering on green boards
stuck in what felt like mazes of netting and scaffolding

i never planned on this being my thing
that this is a part of what i do
but it is, and in some ways it always has been
who i am

i’m grateful for my voice
the release / relief that comes from sharing it openly

it ain’t always pretty but there’s so much power to be found in its vulnerability

i cannot believe we’re more than halfway done with 2025, what a flippin’ whirlwind!

i’m not discussing the blatant madness of our times but i hope you’re doing what you need to take care of yourself so you can extend that care to someone else

outside of the fireworks this day tends to be like all other ones to me, but today is special because of the following:

somethin’ bout posting
for the first time this year,
halfway into the year,
about last year,
makes sense

2025 has been hit after hit (for us all)
but 2024 taught me how to survive them

smile alongside the tears
fight for peace
treasure discipline
accept what you don’t know
learn from what you do
and try to enjoy the ride throughout

love will never abandon you to yourself (unless you let it)
trust in love, let it lead
and make sure to give some along the way

halfway through and eager to see
what 2025 continues to gift me

it’s a beautiful thing
the way pieces come together

@__pagez__ had shared some beats with me
years prior
and i was fearful to engage with them
for quite some time

i lived with (and am still uprooting)
the distortion: i am not enough

some digging
and more uprooting later
i found myself finding solace
only in
the ability to vocalize

aside from prayer,
writing words and speaking in melodies
was the only way to engage
in the pain i felt losing my first love
(and what i thought would be my only)

i remember sending
the sound of the washer at the hotel i was in

and he thought it was cool.
there’s nothing @__pagez__ can’t be inspired by,
he’s brilliant.

i wasn’t sure i’d ever write another song since i’d only ever co-written one before (blue words, iykyk)

and since i wasn’t sure what was next
i wanted to do it all out
which meant, my brother had to be involved

i won’t sidetrack too far
but to know me is to know i love my brother and that i know him to be one of the greatest gifts and brightest lights

and while he’s more suave /grown now
he was a babe
but never in his thinking

he was always up for the challenges of life
facing them with a humility and playfulness far past his years

it was no surprise then,
when he recorded / slayed eight bars
like it wasn’t his first time

and thus, clouds was the first song that came into fruition of flsw

if you made it this far,
truly i am lovestruck by you
and deeply grateful
thank you
