Mitski!! I feel so lucky/blessed to have been able to see her tonight before she takes a much needed/well deserved break. she’s been on tour for over five years and felt if she didn’t take a step back soon her “self-worth/identity will start depending too much on staying in the game, in the constant churn...”
I feel this could be said about a lot of artists but she is someone you definitely have! to see in person. She’s such a performer. It’s one thing to listen to her music but to see her on stage dancing adds another level that really elevated the experience. It’s cool bc that’s how she interpreted her own music w/her body + is also how she wanted to portray it to her audience. Everything was so fucking intentional! Also cool to think about how much she means to her fans that don’t usually see themselves represented in a genre where white, male artists are the most visible. Anyways I wish I could’ve gotten better pictures😫 The shapes she makes w/her body are so fun. It really sucks when you don’t get that perfect pic:/ but this is probably my fav. blurry but cute taken in White Oak Music Hall by @__staaacy_

...i’m really still in shock. Solange was having listening parties throughout Houston and she did her interview/live stream at the one i was at. just getting to watch her visuals and listen to her music and be surrounded by the energy of the crowd was more than enough. but when she walked out! when i tell y’all i dropped to the floor! anyways! she talked about how A Seat At The Table was for everyone and how she had so much to say but When I Get Home was for her and how she had so much to feel(!) she talked about how she’s always looking toward the future. she wants to be an artist black girls can draw from/look to in their creative processes just how she looks to certain artists. and i believe she’s already done that. it’s so cool to think about how much A Seat At The Table meant to me-and black girls in general- when it came out. and the visuals! she drew from the black cowboy aesthetic-which is a lifestyle- and afrofuturism and she made it a point to make spaces for black people in her project. from the dancers/actors on screen to the people she worked with to make the music...anyways i’m excited to listen to this project again and again. taken in SHAPE Community Center by @__staaacy_
