💙 LOOKING BACK AT OUR DONATION DRIVE 💙

What started as a call for donations turned into something truly meaningful for the individuals we serve.

With the support of our community, Step Above collected men’s and women’s clothing, hygiene products, personal care items, and other everyday essentials.

But we wanted to do more than simply distribute the donations.

🛍️ We created a FREE in-person shopping experience where our members could browse available items and choose the clothing and personal essentials that were right for them.

Providing choice matters. Our goal was to create an experience that promoted dignity, independence, confidence, and a sense of normalcy while ensuring our clients had access to items they needed.

We are incredibly grateful to every individual, organization, and community partner who donated, shared our drive, or helped make this possible. Your generosity directly contributed to creating this experience for the people we serve. 💙

WHAT IS ASAM 3.1 RESIDENTIAL?🏠💙

Recovery can be difficult when someone does not have the structure, stability, or supportive environment they need to maintain progress.

ASAM Level 3.1 is a clinically managed, low-intensity residential level of care designed for individuals with substance use disorders who can benefit from 24-hour structure and support while continuing to work toward their treatment and recovery goals.

At Step Above, our goal is to help individuals strengthen recovery skills, develop healthier routines, increase independence, and prepare for the next step in their recovery journey.

WELLNESS BEYOND THE OFFICE🧘🏽‍♀️🌿

Our Step Above IOP and PHP groups had the opportunity to get out into the community and participate in a yoga experience at the VCU Health Hub!

This outing allowed our members to slow down, be present, practice mindfulness, move their bodies, and explore another healthy way to manage stress and support their overall well-being.

At Step Above, we want our clients to do more than talk about coping skills. We want to create opportunities for them to experience and practice healthy activities that they can continue incorporating into their lives and recovery journeys.

Mental Illness Awareness Week💚 | October 5–11

This week, we join communities across the country in raising awareness about mental illness, reducing stigma, and reminding individuals and families that seeking support is a sign of strength.

Mental health challenges can affect people from every background and walk of life. A person may be struggling even when you cannot see it.

This week, we encourage everyone to:

Mental Health + Substance Use: Understanding Co-Occurring Disorders 🧠

Mental health and substance use concerns can happen at the same time. When someone experiences both, they are often referred to as co-occurring disorders.

For some individuals, substance use may become a way of coping with anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, or other difficult emotions. For others, substance use may contribute to or worsen mental health symptoms.

This past weekend, Step Above had the opportunity to participate in the McShin Recovery Fest, and we’re grateful to have been part of such a meaningful community event!

It was a great day of connection, recovery, resources, and hope. We enjoyed meeting community members, connecting with other organizations, and sharing information about the substance use and behavioral health services available through Step Above.
