The American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine is now open to all DPMs! Previously the AAPSM was open to only APMA members, but now because of a rule change, any Licensed DPM can now apply to join the AAPSM! AAPSM Members who are also APMA members will still get an annual dues discount, their annual dues will be $225 per year! We are also offering the dues discount to new AAPSM members that are also ACFAS member, with dues $225 per year! If you are a DPM who is not a member of either APMA or ACFAS you can Now join the AAPSM, but at the non-discount rate of $325!

Student Chapter Update
Brooks Running Hosts Event for Students at Midwestern University

Special thanks to Brooks Running for recently hosting an event at Midwestern University. Members of the AAPSM Student Chapter were treated to food and drinks provided by Brooks, and the students as well as podiatry faculty in attendance got the opportunity to watch a virtual presentation by one of Brooks' very own biomechanists, Dr. Evan Day (a PhD holder in Biomechanics). In his presentation, he informed students of some of the most recent research the team has been doing for their shoes and went into depth on how biomechanic-backed research is a pivotal aspect of developing the best possible product for the consumers using the shoes. Perfectly encompassing and on target with all things sports medicine. At the conclusion of Dr. Evan’s presentation there was a 10-15 minute open Q&A that proved very useful information. by @_aapsm_

Really proud to share Grace’s INSPIRING STORY!!

When I first met her, she had already seen several orthopedic surgeons and had been told that her condition would end her professional skating career.

After performing surgery on her ankle and a ton of hard work on her part, she made it all the way back—and landed a role with DISNEY ON ICE. ⛸️✨

Couldn’t be happier for her. It’s pretty special to see someone get back to doing what they love at this level.

In the midst of externships, I knew I wanted to spend one of my off days learning from Dr. Howard whenever I got the chance. After two years of working with him virtually, I finally got to meet him in person and on one of the greatest stages in sports: field side with the @lagalaxy ⚽️

I got to shadow Dr. Howard, other physicians, and health care workers and team members involved with the LA Galaxy's medical team to learn what it's like to care for athletes at the pro level and understand how sports podiatry plays a role at this stage. Whether it’s helping athletes in my local community or caring for athletes at the professional level, I hope to build a future career that allows me to keep people healthy, moving, and doing what they love.

So grateful for the opportunity to learn, observe, and see sports medicine in action. Thank you to the LA Galaxy medical team for hosting me! Thank you Dr. Howard for the incredible experience! @ussocftdoc And thank you @_aapsm_ for the feature!💓 taken in Dignity Health Sports Park by @_aapsm_

"Congratulations to Josh Buhr, a fourth-year podiatric medical student at BUSPM currently completing his externships, on completing his first-ever Ironman at Ironman Wisconsin this past weekend!

The grueling one-day race consisted of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike through Wisconsin’s challenging terrain with more than 6,500 feet of elevation gain, and a 26.2-mile marathon to finish. With this being his first triathlon, his primary goal was simply to cross the finish line—and he did just that in an impressive 13:43:57, achieving his personal goal of finishing under 14 hours.

The race also brought him back to Madison, where he completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Balancing the demands of fourth-year medical school, externships, and his past role as President of the BUSPM AAPSM Chapter, this accomplishment reflects the dedication, discipline, and perseverance he brings both inside and outside of podiatric medicine.

USA Cycling Gravel National Champion- Paige Onweller.

Seeing an athlete go from being injured in my office to becoming a National Champion is one of the most rewarding parts of sports medicine.
