Today, the Progress Pride flag is flying above Croydon Town Hall to mark the start of Pride Month. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Pride is a celebration, but it is also a reminder. It began as a movement for equality and dignity, and that work is not finished. Our community still face discrimination, hate crime and barriers to being fully accepted for who they are.

This month, we recognise the contribution LGBTQ+ people make to our borough and reaffirm our commitment to creating a Croydon where everyone can live openly, safely and without fear.

Argggg thank you, thank you, thank you! To all 1,919 residents who voted for me - wow, thank you. And to everyone across @broadgreenlabour I’m truly honoured to serve as your councillor for the next four years alongside Manju and Tom.

While we narrowly lost the mayoralty by just 1,103 votes, I’m so proud of our team and of @rowenna_for_croydon_mayor for an incredible campaign. Huge commiserations too to colleagues who lost their seats. So much work went into this election from the team and each of us (including me leaving my previous job to undertake selection lol). But I would do it all over again!! I’m delighted Labour remains the largest party on the council, and we’ll continue holding the Mayor to account while fighting to rebuild and improve Croydon.

Broad Green is a ward I know and care deeply about - from the amazing local businesses to the community where I once worked as teaching staff on London Road. It means so much to have the opportunity to serve here. Also thank you to my friends, family and all our BG volunteers who came out to support us!

First steps this weekend? Spend time with the famo, my phone on DND, catching up on sleep, and finally resting my feet. Then the work begins on Monday 💪🏾

It was great to join Sarah Jones MP at a successful coffee morning at the Peppermint Centre. Residents raised a number of important local issues, including fly-tipping, the ongoing development of Croydon town centre, and anti-social behaviour along London Road. Many attendees also expressed a strong desire for more community groups and resident associations, to make it easier to communicate and organise around ongoing concerns in the area.

As a result of these discussions, residents agreed to re-establish the Rosedene Residents’ Association. The police also attended to speak about the work they are doing to tackle anti-social behaviour, to answer residents’ questions, and to explain how people can get involved and stay informed through Met Place and Met Engage.

It was really positive to speak directly with residents, reintroduce our candidates, and continue to work in partnership with the MP, the police, and the local community. #croydon #community #broadgreen taken in Croydon, United Kingdom by @_abaamoah

A 9am–2am shift! 😭🌹

A day in my life at Labour Party Conference from panels and policy discussions to catching up with councillors, campaigners and friends from across the UK.

Conference is always a chance to share best practices, learn from what’s happening elsewhere and, most importantly, bring those conversations back home to Croydon and the residents I represent!

Safe to say I packed A LOT into one day 😂

Sunday fun ⚽️💜 Great to head down to Croydon Sports Arena to watch @croydonwfc in action yesterday.

It was also lovely being back on my old athletics stomping ground! During secondary school, I spent time here training with Croydon Harriers, so it definitely brought back some memories 🏃🏾‍♀️❤️.

🌳 Out and about at Norwood Grove Park!

We visited the park to look at a couple of issues that need some attention.

The former stable building is currently being used as storage space, and we want to understand what the future plans are and whether better use could be made of the building.

We also looked at the public toilets, which have remained closed since Covid. This well-used public park needs proper facilities for the people who use it - particularly families, older residents and for supporters/members of the bowling club in the park.

Your @norbury_park_labour have been pushing for change. We’ll be raising both issues with the Council and asking for some clear answers on what can be done!

A fab day at the @gmbsisterslondon conference 🙌🏾

I really enjoyed learning about some of the women who helped shape the trade union movement, and hearing about campaigns GMB has been organising across the country - including with Amazon workers in Coventry.

There are lots of practical ideas about what makes a campaign work, how you get people involved and what we can take back into our own workplaces and communities.

Thank you to all the organisers and to @uma.kumaran.mp Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Overseas Territories and Caribbean and Assistant Government Whip, who shared some of her own experiences with us!

🍎 Such a lovely afternoon at Apple Day, celebrating 20 years of Addiscombe Railway Park!

Great to celebrate alongside the Friends of Addiscombe Railway Park, the Civic Mayor - Cllr Mohammed Islam, Addiscombe West and East councillors and the local community.

After 15 years at the heart of the community, we shouldn’t simply accept losing a much-loved local festival.

I’ve written to the Mayor and Cllr Ward (Cabinet member for Parks and Culture) asking what his administration will do to support the future of community festivals across Croydon and help ensure events like this can remain sustainable for years to come.

I know how much local councillors value these events too. Cllr @mel.felten and Woodside Cllr Amy Foster and Brigette Graham has been strong supporter of South Norwood Community Festival, including being there with a councillors’ stall this year, while councillors in Thornton Heath have also continued to champion their local festival.

These festivals are run by volunteers, but they bring communities together and have become an important part of Croydon’s cultural life.
