Every Tuesday I am celebrating actors I love!

Today I am spotlighting Andrew Brian Carter, an actor I have known since my college years in Illinois. Andrew has always been a true collaborator, one who wants to work with others to create something great. He thrives off the energy that comes from the process more than the end result. And in an age of self-tapes, when you often don’t get a lot of feedback, that is a tremendous gift. I recently got to see Andrew shine in a play called O: A RHAPSODY IN DIVORCE, where he played 8 very different characters (one more wacky than the next). Whatever his next booking, I have no doubt Andrew will show up with gratitude and ready to play.

I asked Andrew a few questions and here is what he had to say:

WHAT ROLE OR PROJECT THAT YOU’VE DONE ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?
People ask me this question a lot, and the answer I typically come back to is “Whatever comes next.” I think our ability to move from project to project, character to character, is one of the most admirable qualities of any actor. Sometimes, people want to know how I deal with all the rejection. But as long as there’s another opportunity, either an audition or a booking, I am encouraged to keep going. What’s next is the chance to improve upon the last, to deepen your craft, and bring forth your latest experiences. You are alive, and you get another shot at sharing your humanity. That’s something to be proud of.

WHAT GOAL DO YOU STILL WANT TO ACHIEVE?
I truly love the classic multi-cam sitcom format, and I’ve had the pleasure to work on a few of those sets. I crave the weekly rehearsal process, the way writers constantly pump up jokes, and in the best scenario, performing for a live audience. I would like to be part of a really funny ensemble and writing team. Series regular would be amazing, but even a recurring character like Gunther on “Friends” or Newman on “Seinfeld” would be such a gift. To go to work, week after week, with a family of artists all aspiring to make the world laugh. I’ll take that, please.

Andrew has so much more to share with you - including an audition story I’m sure more than a few of you will relate to. K by @_abcisme_

If your friends ever move to Greece and invite you to stay at their stunning apartment and hang out with their perfectly humble cats and perfectly adorable dog and walk everywhere and devour street meat and shop hyper-local and drink everything put in front of you and see an opera in an ancient amphitheater and listen to records while eating pastries and coffee and cheese wrapped in phyllo and dripping with honey and laughing laughing laughing…just say No. It’s awful. Not recommended. Zero stars. 💙🤍💙 taken in Athens, Greece by @_abcisme_

Heat wave or not, we ate and drank our way through Italy with as much fervor as our sweaty minds could muster. Precious time spent celebrating our anniversary with my sister and brother-in-law, top-notch dining, Renaissance masterpieces, generous helpings of gelato, and serious retail therapy. Grazie Italia per una bella avventura! 💚🤍❤️ taken in Italy by @_abcisme_

BOOKED SELF TAPE!! (As a reminder, I have nothing to do with this self tape. I’m just posting for your enjoyment and education. I do not make any content revenue off of your tapes or your work. It’s your work, I’m thrilled for you to share it so that others may learn and celebrate your success!) This is everything because the point of view absolutely slays this tape. Also, nfn, but the background color to make his eyes pop is just 🔥. Incredibly specific, funny, and full of ease! @_abcisme_
