‘trio’ from gi, r hunter & third space - out now

‘trio’ is out today on Absorb, bringing together new computer music from gi, r hunter and Third Space 🪢

The release is now available on streaming platforms, with remaining CDs available for purchase via Bandcamp.

@belleysbutton :

“The trio is significant in many contexts. Veni, vidi, vici. Omne trium perfectum. With trio, Absorb proposes three artists to complete the trinity.

gi answers with breathy beats, cracking marble, and post-doof static. r hunter’s rhythmic pyrotechnics weave glimmering micro hi-hats into Sisyphean wompy heaving. Third Space’s textural reverbs tease gut-wrenching bass to the precipice of falling apart. The three whip and heave, decisive and insistent. They lace their provocations in precision, exercising mastery while never straying far from chaos. They peer over into the abyss, taunting us with vertigo.

Threes create balance, harmonies, and patterns. In trio, the only pattern is that there is none. Rather, the divine harmony of this triad manifests mysteriously across three acts (beginning, middle, end), probing the limits of “intelligent dance music”, of computer music, and submerging the listener in the sub-sub-subterranean”

Very happy to announce the forthcoming release of ‘trio’, a mini-album by gi, r hunter and Third Space.

Out September 22, with pre-orders available now via Bandcamp 🖥️

In ‘trio’ we hear a selection of new works from gi, r hunter and Third Space, each capturing something of the Absorb label’s consciousness from its inception in 2020 through to the present. These expressions reveal each artists’ distinct approach to composition while contributing to a greater, shared terrain of computer music. That unfolding, decidedly open sound has been shaped by this particular three, a trio who have quietly advanced the form over the past decade in Australia.

‘disaster 1’ by bodies of divine infinite and eternal spirit is out now ⭕️

“here is our largest production to date. our largest group of musicians. our longest song. our biggest disaster yet. recorded sweating in one take with the group on a 40 degree day in Elvis’ studio and then later that month joined by the choir at bell city takeaway and they followed suit, learning the song the day they sang it. the first time they speak it is here, as this disaster specifically. then we sat with the song and mixed it live in one take too. it’s both the purest specimen and metaphor for the whole bodies project. it’s immediate and uncompromised. it’s interested in what music can activate as a social-spiritual engagement more than it is on producing a record that sounds a particular way. new things were tested and now arrive stamped. this approach keeps the body in a state of listening, of caution, of potential disaster. and so the beauty of disaster is that it brings new perspective on beauty altogether. the awkwardness has a chance to become poetic. the fluctuating confidence takes the role of an instrument one wields so that the exhaustion of playing for 46 minutes transforms into the style itself. come shameful as you are says the song”

▪️ Digital + vinyl 12” available via Bandcamp & all good record stores

ABSORBED with Cynetic 🪻

Last week’s mix on LYL Radio is now online for your listening pleasure. For the latest installment, Kavil invites new media artist Hanna Ogawa (aka Cynetic) to the show.

On the off chance that the recent devotional flute and communal singing has brought any of the label’s listeners more yawns than joy, please take time to enjoy this pivot to complex, highly clinical bass music.

“Pulsating moments of boundless play in between spells of empty, atmospheric drone, that drone and drone and drone until the circles of the drone become the rhythm of a pulse all in the spirit of the moment. A moment that ripples and bounces, breaking away only to swing back with even more force. Yet, existing in the moment of in between feeling the seemingly inconspicuous wind driving such energy - carry me through this void of mirrors, for now all I can do is wander through. Perhaps finding my way as I weave through the debris, wired metal, comforted by the growth of my neighbouring plants as we sense where to meet the universe halfway ~ until the next wave of it all begins”

Next week on Gadigal and Wangal land: the group known as bodies of divine infinite and eternal spirit perform their 46-minute opus, ‘disaster 1’, alongside a newly assembled choir of local musicians and community members 🔔

Join us at Leichhardt Uniting Church as the ensemble welcomes new voices, and the long song reimagines itself. This particular disaster will be performed once and only once, not to be missed!

The evening will begin with performances from two Sydney groups:

🪞Gayab (ग़ायब): a continual exploration in drone and melody. Members Toto, Lauren and Shota draw inspiration from paan-stained streets, the haphazardly planned infrastructural buggery of Sydney and its cultural disorientation.

🪞no ceremony: Hinano Fujisaki & Jasper Craig-Adams, two forces of local music join as one. Undulating sound that unfolds in the moment: flute, sax or both; maybe bowed guitar, or zero-strummed, guitar-above-head feedback.

Monday 5th October

In just under two weeks, pillars of the scene Trust FM and Sonic Business unite to present the long-awaited return of bodies of divine infinite and eternal spirit to the capital, their first show in Canberra since playing the Polish White Eagle Club on their Wet Body tour with Wet Kiss in 2019.

The group now presents ‘disaster 1’, their newly released 46-minute masterwork which at Shadows pushes further into bass, drone and drum machine with a 6-person ensemble. Similarly to the band itself, ‘disaster 1’ expands and contracts, and never plays the same way twice.

The night will also feature live performance from local force umki and a showing of Beanie’s Quotidienne Opera, the brand new techno theatre from Genie.

The long song continues. For good measure, we’ve now added an after party to keep music alive till late. Excited to announce that FLAMEJ, 5 STAR KILLER and The Rat will be joining us, all artists from Melbourne-based psychedelic dance label, Mud Records.

No holds barred for this one 🫟

ABSORBED with Antediluvian Rocking Horse VS. ! 🎠

Absorb label head Kavil (aka !, Excited State) spars with legendary turntablist Paul Wain (aka DJ2, Bunny Rabbits), the “last horse standing” of Antediluvian Rocking Horse, an influential anti-copyright and plunderphonics project formed in 1994 with Susan King in St Kilda, joined later by the great Ollie Olsen. Dedicated to recycling and re-constructing sound, ARH has collaborated with numerous artists in performance, including Damo Suzuki (of CAN) and Japanese noise rock band, Boredoms.

This live recording captures ARH & !’s multi-channel b2b in the late hours and rain at AN.ERRA Festival, 16 May 2026. The following slides provide a glimpse of the scenes…

From Paul:
“My approach to djing ? Is having no plan , we didnt discuss what we had in our selection so you have to listen and respond to the last track , find the spaces between the sounds to bring in the missing sonic ranges and let things run over each other to find new unexpected juxtapositions , its about active listening for both the audience and ourselves”

Mastered by @solsa.cum
Eternal thanks to @amoe.ba_

The recording is available for listening via Absorb’s Soundcloud page. Enjoy it & share it! by @_absorb__
