The Advocates for Climate Justice South Africa (ACJSA) expresses deep concern over the ongoing devastating weather conditions affecting various parts of the country, particularly KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). The persistent severe weather, including heavy rains and storms, continues to pose a significant threat to communities, infrastructure, and the overall well-being of South Africans. These conditions have led to tragic loss of life, displacement of families, and widespread damage to homes, roads, and public services.

The impact of these extreme weather events has been far-reaching, destabilizing the economy, disrupting education, and hindering essential service delivery initiatives. We stand in solidarity with the families who have endured immense suffering during this difficult time, including those who have lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods. Our hearts go out to all affected communities, and we extend our deepest condolences to those grieving the loss of family members and friends.

In light of these challenges, we urge all members of the community to exercise extreme caution and prioritize safety. To mitigate further risks, we advise the following:

1. Stay informed: Regularly check weather updates and heed warnings from the South African Weather Service and other relevant authorities.
2. Follow guidance: Adhere to instructions from traffic officers, emergency personnel, and local authorities, especially in areas prone to flooding, landslides, or other hazards.
3. Choose safety: Avoid taking unnecessary risks, such as crossing flooded roads or entering unsafe structures. Prioritize the safety of yourself and your loved ones above all else.

We also call on all stakeholders, including government, civil society, businesses, and individuals, to collaborate in providing relief and support to affected communities. Now is the time for collective action to ensure that life returns to normality as quickly as possible. We encourage those who are able to extend a helping hand to contribute to relief efforts and work together to rebuild and restore affected areas. ear Supporters, Public Members, Potential Partners, and Stakeholders,

As we usher in the year 2025, we extend our warmest compliments and heartfelt gratitude to each of you for your unwavering support and commitment to the cause of climate justice. It is through collective action and persistent advocacy that we continue to strive for a sustainable and equitable future for all.

This year, we at Advocates for Climate Justice South Africa have embraced an ambitious vision that encapsulates our dedication to advancing the fight against climate change. We are excited to announce our resolution to merge our advocacy efforts with comprehensive and profound research, positioning ACJSA not only as a leading voice against climate change but also as a research institute at the forefront of critical environmental inquiries.

Our aim is to expand horizons and elevate our impact by providing timely, relevant, and accurate information that responds to the pressing challenges posed by climate change. This evolution does not signify a departure from our foundational values; rather, it represents a strategic step forward to amplify our voice and enhance our effectiveness in the climate justice movement.

We firmly believe that your support will be invaluable as we embark on this transformative journey. With your partnership, we will enhance our engagement and collaboration across various coalitions and alliances, where we have established a strong presence for advocating climate justice. Together, we can confront the climate crisis more robustly and ensure that our collective efforts lead to meaningful change.

We remain steadfast in our commitment to the advancement of climate justice, recognizing that each voice contributes to the momentum needed for significant strides against environmental degradation. As we move forward, we invite you to join us in this exciting new chapter, to be part of a movement that seeks to rewrite the narrative of climate justice in South Africa and beyond.

With that being said, we would like to announce our cornerstone theme for the year “Striving for Climate Justice in the midst of Economic Inequalities “ taken in KwaZulu-Natal by @_acjsa_
