The sustainable fashion session with Ms. Charity Daramola was a resounding success, thanks to insightful contributions from audience members Awena Farouq and Brian Nyongesa. Their perspectives on reuse and pollution prevention enriched the discussion.

Half of April dump! I’ve even a bit disorganized butttt I feel like I’m finally finding my groove in Mombasa only took about 2 months and some change. And guess what I’m moving AGAIN😭hopefully for the last time bc im tired. My minister of enjoyment duties have consisted less of partying and more eating, chilling, and reading. It’s such a drastic shift ngl I miss the club😂but it’s not the same. One of my goals being here was to find other hobbies outside of partying so I’m definitely finding more creative spaces where I can get back into art, music, and dance again especially playing instruments. I also have this really cool project I’m working on with some friends here and can’t wait to share that with y’all once we’ve done more work!

Also, I had a couple of moments of homesickness especially bc of my birthday, my nieces birthday, and seeing friends from home you can’t help but think about what you’re missing but my birthday also showed me what I gained. I had friends I met the day before go out of their way to bring me flowers and celebrate me. My students surprised me with a cake and luckily didn’t pour water on me😂😂.I’m just at a point where I’m coming to terms with the fact that I’m really here living a life that I prayed, dreamed, and worked mad hard for and ofc there will be downs and moments where I miss my people but I’m grateful that I’ve met so many others along the way that make my life here so much better anywho enough being sappy. Dakar Day 3 kinda lost momentum but I’m back since im getting my hair done and have nothing better to do lol.

Did some makeup went for a lil alté babe look which was fun since I don’t wear a lot of makeup anymore because of the Mombasa heat. And denim on denim on denim I loveddddd this fit I wore it before with my mullet last year but wanted to try again.

Breakfast of champions! The tapioca was really good reminded me of the tapioca I had at Harvest last year.

I really enjoyed everyone’s presentations on day 3. Took some notes and also reminded myself of ways to be a better ETA. It was also a much shorter day in terms of staying at WARC so they gave us lunch to go. I’d rate lunch a 7.2/10 I had an apple for the first time in months bc apples are not in season in Mombasa. The little snacks they had tho were a good mix of savory and salty the only thing I wasn’t the biggest fan of was the fish pie but that’s bc I generally don’t like fish pies except Haitian fish patty iykyk. I probably should’ve switched my sandwich option bc Joel said his was really good and was even his favorite meal during our trip.

We went to the Museum of Black Civilization. Took some vids and pics of the journey there. I thoroughly enjoyed reading everything in a French accent I’m honestly a ✨pro✨. Took a jpeg with Joelle bc she’s the best! The artwork was beautiful and I enjoyed discussing and learning about Senegalese culture with the other ETAs. Then of course we had to do a group fit check on the top floor.

After a fun day at the museum, BOKEMA (Botswana, Kenya, and Mauritius) ETAs we went to get dinner at Le Djollof it was so beautiful all around and the food was an experience to say the least! I’d love to come back we had tapas and then I decided to get a large meal and the lobster whewwwww I wanna have it again! taken in Dakar, Senegal by @_adventuresoftope

Day 2 in Dakar!!!! I captured the journey to the West African research center and I ate so much food like my goodness😭it was so delish I wish I remembered the names of everything we ate bc this was honestly one of my favorite food days! I also had Thai food which I haven’t had in about 3 months and the cocktails were *chefs kiss*.

Truly grateful that legit from day 1 I was able to make connections and friends with people. I feel like this group photo signifies how Fulbright really brings people together but I wish I knew about/met everyone sooner!!!

Rooftop vibessssss. I think the interesting thing about Dakar is that so much of it is being developed kinda wanna do research on this just for funsies idk. also wish I spoke some more French bc lord God almighty ordering was a trip but quite fun to see what words I could pick up and remember. I know my posts are likkle disorganized but this just how my brain works anyways day 3 coming soon:) by @_adventuresoftope

The journey to Senegal! Honestly it was a journey indeed I almost couldn’t leave the country because of some visa issues but I made it lolllll. I was so excited ngl to be in Senegal for one Dakar is one of my fav places regarding fashion/African fashion in particular. Two I miss West African food and three I wanted to meet all the other Fulbrighters:) four I was so excited to wear my clothes because it’s too hot for a lot of my fits in Mombasa. First night was calm just ate dinner and chit chatted with folks and went up to the 10th floor which was really a sight to see! I think the funniest part of arriving in Dakar was realizing that most of us were on the same flight😂but just didn’t know. Anyways I was feeling grateful but I was also really tired from traveling by @_adventuresoftope

This week in photos.
• went to Jumeirah and Hypnotica with my friends it was so fun plus Sunday was the first day of Ramadan
• went to Kongowea market didn’t take photos bc it was A LOT but went to the beach after to get food and relax
• my students were learning about writing narratives so I was reviewing notes and we also had a quality assurance review where the principal, deputy, and department heads reviews students and teachers performance
• went to Zubi Dubious with my coteacher Jane and her son to celebrate him getting his hard cast removed! The food was tasty but the service was really poor.
• travelled to Kilifi and went out with Nassim and Carol but Carols husband fell asleep at the shere😂😂
• we went to Malindi to do a program review and I got to see a lesson taught about how to take hiv/aids medication and about emotions, puberty, abstinence, etc. The kids made fun of my accent but I’m used to it and it actually makes me laugh tbh. We had a pit stop at the Vasco de Gama pillar. Then we went on a boat ride which is going to get its own post it was so cooolllll by @_adventuresoftope

Favorite foods and beverages. I honestly like really random things so here’s some of the things I enjoyed:)

1. Chivita exotic the loml I basically turned into this drink while I was in Nigeria and I need to find it in Mombasa (I don’t like coconut but this drink does it for me!)
2. Spaghetti from Farm city. For some reason the service was TERRIBLE that day mind you I’ve gone there plenty of times and it’s been good I think they just had an off day. Last time I got fish but they didn’t have it unfortunately so I opted for this instead Nigerians make better spaghetti than Italians don’t argue with me argue with yourself😂
3. Fanta! I’m a Fanta lover and I enjoy trying Fanta from all over the world Nigeria is ranked #3 on my Fanta list
4. Sandra’s fried rice. I had two plates of it and I wanted more but my stomach wouldn’t allow for that😔
5. Wine bar twasssss a very tasty meal and the cocktail was superb I was just disappointed bc they didn’t have the wine tasting option available but it was a cool experience and they have such a lovely set up!
6. Plaintain chips that’s it that’s all!
7. Honestly the mango version is better but it’s just nostalgic bc Dammy and I drink it together it’s like our inside cousin thing
8. Chickwizz from Chicken Republic went out on a whim and ordered this from chicken republic one day and got hooked😂I think about it often
9. Amala I had amala about 6 times and I’ve been wanting it more and more this amala was delishhhhh!!! perfect amount of spice and the ratio of stew, ewedu, and gbegiri was immaculate I just wish the portion was bigger
10. Small chops from the wedding best small chops I’ve ever had I loved everything which is rare for me to say bc usually I don’t like other peoples puff puff but this puff puff was not oily at all. The chicken was seasoned and the samosas were crispy. I could order a whole tray of these small chops

Honorable mention the banana bread we had it was probably the best banana bread I’ve ever had and they had so many flavors imma add it to my story since I already typed this out! by @_adventuresoftope

Okay the long awaited Nigeria dump lol I’m trying to work on not procrastinating so here we go!!!! Tbh I had such a good time in Abuja and Lagos🫡. There were many many many things that made it enjoyable tbh hanging out with the cuzzos, concerts, the food (currently craving amala as we speak), perfume making, the turkeys lmaoooo, meeting my fav artists Odeal and Odunsi the Engine🥺, and overall just taking a break from the stress of the US. Honestly I can’t wait to go back maybe I won’t spend a whole month more like 2-3 weeks and maybe add Ghanerrrrrr to the mix? Also I’m thinking about changing the format of this page to be more post focused instead of stories by @_adventuresoftope

Hey hey it’s your homie Tope:)/Charity aka the minister of enjoyment🫡 and welcome to my page🤗. I wanna thank y’all for joining me on this journey and here’s just a little bit about me. I’m 23, I enjoy working with/mentoring kids, I love to travel, my motto is what is life without enjoyment, I have 3 siblings, born and raised in Jerzzzz, and I’m Nigerian omo Yoruba😌. If there’s music, food, a body of water, my friends or art you’ll find me there! I’m super excited about my Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship in Kenya. I’ll be based in Mombasa but I’m planning on visiting different parts of Kenya and meeting up with my teacher friends from all over East Africa.

I also know some folks want to know more about the process of applying for Fulbright so feel free to message me! My first couple posts will be dedicated towards recaps of my trips in 2023 because I don’t post too much about those things on my personal page. As always much love and happy learning🥰 by @_adventuresoftope
