Unlike typical courtyard designs, our Courtyard House project lowers the courtyard surface below grade, resulting in a serene, Zen garden at the basement level, The resulting void above the courtyard acts as a lightwell, allowing natural light down to the lower levels, but also to penetrate deep into the public areas of the house at the main and upper levels, enhancing the luminosity of the interior. taken in Seattle, Washington by @_aetherworks

Concept work for our Hikidashi project.

Set on a steep slope within a small ski community, Hikidashi not only responds to sweeping views, but a challenging site defined by steep grades, fire-hazard exposure, and heavy snow.

The simple, compact form accommodates provides robust efficiency, while a series of volumes and decks slide outward from the primary mass — drawers that project into the landscape, framing covered exterior rooms and shifting viewpoints toward the slopes beyond. Weathered steel cladding gives the house the stout resilience required by its fire-prone setting, while subtle , almost delicate, metal screens protect privacy without closing off the views the site was chosen for. taken in Crystal Mountain Resort by @_aetherworks

Thank you @aiatampabay and the 2025 Design Awards jury for awarding our Wilderness Road Event Center project as a Merit Award recipient in the Unbuilt Category earlier this month. We are thrilled that a project so meaningful to the local community has been recognized with this honor.

Congratulations to the other winners as well, many of whom are friends, colleagues, and former students!
