On 20th September, we decided to leave the classroom and take our learning to the streets.

The Media & Storytelling Cluster headed by @maryam._dauda & @rabioukabeer visited the ancient Kurmi Market to experience storytelling firsthand and learn directly from the people, history, and everyday activities of the market.

It was such an impactful experience, made even more meaningful by our guides, @ad_maihoto and @_agidi_ . We gained so much knowledge about the history, activities, and stories behind Kurmi Market. We also had the opportunity to meet the Chairman of the Market Organization, Malam Sulaiman, who shared valuable insights with us.

It was a long day, but one filled with learning, experiences, connections, and memories.

This is only the beginning of what we hope to achieve together as a cluster.

Kofar Mata Dye Pits, Kano — Nigeria 🇳🇬

Carved into the earth over 500 years ago, these pits are believed to be the oldest indigo dye pits still in active use in Africa. Since the 15th century, the same craft has been passed down through generations of dyers — hands stained blue, fabric soaked and pulled, dried under the same sun, again and again.

Each pit is hand-dug and filled with a natural indigo dye made from fermented leaves, ash, and potash — no machines, no shortcuts. The deeper and richer the blue, the longer the cloth has soaked.

What you’re looking at isn’t just dye. It’s history still working.

Alhamdulillah for another year of life 🤍🎂

Today, I celebrate not just my birthday, but the journey, the growth, the lessons, the wins, and even the challenges that shaped me into who I am today. Life hasn’t always been easy, but through every moment, Allah has been faithful, merciful, and kind to me.

I’m grateful for life, for good health, for family, for genuine friends, and for every opportunity that has come my way. I pray this new chapter brings me closer to my dreams, fills my heart with peace, strengthens my faith, and opens doors of success, happiness, and endless blessings.
