I practically told everyone that I would not be staying at Lander University after the first semester was over. I applied and was accepted to several other schools, talked to advisors, and really had my mind set on being out of here as soon as I could. But here I am, leaving Lander for the last time as a freshman, moving in with two of my best-friends this summer, and most of all continuing my education at Lander.

One of the curve balls thrown at me this semester was getting a new, completely random roommate who I had never met, and if you know me you know that’s completely out of my comfort zone. But the Lord’s hand was undoubtedly in it when Hailey moved in. Hailey has taught me more about myself in the last several months than college could have in a year. She has grown to be someone so dear to me, and I know my life wouldn’t be as bright without her in it!

The best way I can describe leaving this season of life behind is through the word bittersweet. This year did not go as I had planned for a number of reasons. But it was never my plan to begin with, it was the Lord’s. Looking back now I couldn’t see it any other way. There have been so many incredible people that have walked alongside me during this year and I am forever grateful for the advice, stories, and encouragement shared with me.

So much to smile about in March!!

The Lord continued to show His goodness and faithfulness in every busy and quiet moment. My favorite verse to cling to the past few weeks has been Jeremiah 6:16; “Thus says the Lord: “Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls.“ Sometimes the right choice isn’t the easiest one to make. However, the rest for our souls is found in trusting the Lord will get us to where we need to be.

Psalm 46:10
“Be still and know that I am God”

The past few months have been filled of slowing down and admiring God’s beauty and blessings that surround me everyday. But, the most important lesson I’ve learned so far through my journey, is the power of faith. Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen; the confidence that the darkness WILL lift.

Second semester of college has thankfully already treated me better than the first. I have found peace in knowing God has a plan that is far greater than my own. This has been such a sweet season of life with new & old friendships, family, Church leaders, and Jesus. The last few weeks have been extra sweet as I have stepped back into a classroom and rediscovered my passion and love for becoming an educator.

Trials and thorns of life never seem fair. However there is a reason for every season, even the tough ones. The beauty of it all is every-time, Jesus has met me exactly where I am. In our weakness God is able to show the fullness of His power and reality of His presence, all we have to do is lean on Him and trust Him. He gives us ALL the grace we need to not only survive, but to thrive and live in His joy through every season.

All of this to say, whatever you may be facing, whatever circumstances you’re in, worry & anxiety, Jesus is greater than it all. The valleys and mountains you are facing are not a detour, but rather a path to God’s greater plan. Don’t miss the blessing, by focusing on avoiding the valley. There is peace in Jesus, Be still and know He is in control. by @_alexstankus_

Psalm 23:4
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

I don’t think any words I can say, can describe the feeling of coming out of the water, forgiven, redeemed, and most of all, deeply loved. As some may know I did not have the easiest time coming to college and adjusting. There have been many late nights, tears, and questions as to why God would allow me to feel this way or why I couldn’t have the ideal “college experience.” But through this season of life I have found my worth is not in things of the World, but in Jesus.

If the last several months have taught me anything, it’s that God has such a funny way of sowing things together and everything will work out in HIS perfect timing and HIS perfect plan, not mine.

Today I made the decision to publicly give my life to Jesus. This would not have been possible without all of the love and support that surrounds me. The countless phone calls, texts, check-ins, have been so very appreciated. I’m extremely thankful for my church family, and cannot thank my leaders enough for continuing to be by my side through not only some of the hardest seasons but also the ones worth celebrating.
