what a very powerful planet we inhabit. after being wildfire’d out of our original camp plans, we instead got to visit crater lake national park which, as everyone says, is surreal.
brian gifted me a national parks scratch-off art poster which revealed this to be my 17th american park. i’ve decided not to count those i visited in my youth, more as an excuse to go back to hike than anything else. who wouldn’t want to go back to yellowstone? when my dad saw the poster he pointed out i’ve been to over a quarter of them, 27%

27 is my lucky number, & i enjoy looking for magic on each 27th of the month. thus, hopefully your day is good today, n some small magic thing happens for you too taken in Crater Lake National Park by @_alyssalightning_

some days, you know, you wake up and the sky really feels cracked open? like broken open & blue and you swear maybe you really never looked at it before, or at least not for awhile. and then you look at your coffee mug, and your table, and your pets or your lover or all the things that are “suddenly” there like a plant that seemingly grew overnight even though you know it didn’t. you know you were there for all of it - but where did all this love come from, all this light? when did that grow, shift, change? what can i take credit for and what was out of my hands? what is a gift and what belonged to me from long ago? everything so sparkly and connected and arrived! you know that feeling?

anyway i took all social media off my phone; it’s great :) summers goin, it’s my ten year anniversary of moving to Los Angeles - i figure im a bona fide californian now
also i moved & it’s gorgeous & a home is unfurling, revealing, in real time! ❤️‍🔥🎊🌹🧚🏼‍♀️🍊✨ take care! love you!! by @_alyssalightning_

taking the outside, in.
alone in the nevada backcountry - half a day at most, yet still - i feel the lack of a human face.
these days we’re so inundated & we all know it. i worry about the long-term effects, but i pick up the solitude & electronic-less-ness as easily as breathing. it makes me realize maybe it’s not too far gone. and, while wildly obstructed, it’s actually not hard to sit outside all night & watch the way the moon’s light like a bright beacon moves rapidly down the rock face as it rises.
you can hike miles sleepless, blistered, coffee in hand & body full of other unnamed things. the desert canyon’s unveiled playground, deep tinnitus of quiet places. other body’s satellite constellations moving around the landscape unseen. i also, unknown. all things magical & mundane in turn, in turn. by @_alyssalightning_

as is ever it’s way, november hazes gently into december. back north the snow marks it’s arrival. here west it’s a quieter transition, if indeed the season really arrives at all. as ink bleeding from page to page the calendar melts with the sky, dark by the time one walks out of work for the day.

time itself has a sense of humor these days; everywhere i am being told it’s the season for resting & slowing, but the places i am needed only accelerate exponentially before abruptly - they’ll stop. everyone eager to scrape up the loose bits that need doing until the very last second. i admit myself subscribed to this pattern. this is the way of things ending: a flare of light, that energetic push preceding deserved quiet, slowness. sleep.

days ago already, we fled up the coast to camp beneath the coastal redwoods & hike the edge of the sea. some stolen slow-time during this mad season. upon returning home i resume pace immediately, & have had hardly a moment to spare to share some of its splendor. as always it was beautiful, spirit-restoring, & a lot of fun.
